The Trailer Mechanic performs required inspections and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment within planned time tolerances to maximize safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the life cycle of the fleet. Description for Internal Candidates
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform inspections on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, converter dollies, light duty vehicles and any other company-owned equipment in accordance with all federal, state and local legal and regulatory agencies. (Includes all state required inspections and frequencies)
- Perform quality preventive maintenance inspections per company methods on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, converter dollies, lift-gates, light duty vehicles and any other company-owned equipment
- Perform quality maintenance repairs as required to maximize safety and reliability on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, converter dollies, lift-gates, light duty vehicles and any company-owned equipment
- Create and complete work order entries. Maintain work order and vehicle maintenance records
- Utilize the company's maintenance software program to create and complete work orders
- Conduct all levels of preventive maintenance functions such as regular servicing of vehicles including oil changes, and equipment inspections
- Electrical diagnostics, repair and replacement
- Lead and/or assist with the physical parts purchasing, inventory, receiving and proper charge out of parts to work orders
- Performs general cleaning and repair duties
- Oversee other shop personnel
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2 years of school and 2 years of experience or 4 years of experience in fleet maintenance and repair
- Medium / Heavy Duty truck technical training
- ASE certification required
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
- Ability to work in inclement weather conditions outside
- CDL Class A preferred
- 609 HVAC Certification
- Brake Inspector Certification, knowledge, skills and abilities
- Working knowledge of computer-based diagnostic software for OEM's and component manufacturers
- Technician must own and provide all tools necessary to perform maintenance. Diagnostic equipment, major shop tools, and secure toolbox will be provided by the company
- Current valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- High school diploma or GED required
- Must have own tools
- Knowledge and understanding of FMCSRs and DOT Compliance
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements
- Air brake certification or ability to get a certification
