Job Description: Registered Nurse (RN) or Certified Rehabilitation Nurse - Medical Rehabilitation Unit
Overview: We are seeking a highly qualified Registered Nurse (RN) or Certified Rehabilitation Nurse with extensive experience in medical rehabilitation, particularly in the care of patients recovering from neurological conditions and traumatic brain injuries (TBI). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex patient cases, demonstrating clinical expertise, and providing compassionate care in a rehabilitation setting.
Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients in a medical rehabilitation unit, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient management.
- Monitor and interpret patient vital signs, assess neurological status, and evaluate response to therapeutic interventions.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, adhering to established protocols and ensuring patient safety.
- Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding care plans, rehabilitation goals, and community resources.
- Coordinate discharge planning and transition of care, ensuring continuity and effectiveness of rehabilitation therapies.
- Utilize advanced nursing skills to assess and manage patients with traumatic brain injuries, including monitoring for complications and implementing specialized interventions.
- Provide care and support for patients with tracheotomies and G-tubes, ensuring proper care, maintenance, and troubleshooting of devices.
- Ensure accurate and detailed medication administration specific to patient needs, including understanding of pharmacology, dosage calculations, and administration routes.
- Implement proper protocol for turning and lifting patients using safe and effective techniques to prevent injury and promote patient comfort.
- Collaborate with rehabilitation specialists, therapists, and healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes and rehabilitation progress.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and progress towards goals.
Requirements:
- Current RN license valid in the state of Texas, with no infractions.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a medical rehabilitation unit, with specific expertise in neurological care and traumatic brain injuries.
- Extensive experience with medication administration specific to complex patient needs, including understanding of pharmacology, dosage calculations, and administration routes.
- Experience working with patients who have tracheotomies and G-tubes, including knowledge of care protocols, suctioning techniques, and managing complications.
- In-depth knowledge of rehabilitation principles, including functional assessments, goal setting, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice, continuous learning, and professional development.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and complex patient needs.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Experience at TIRR (The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research) medical location in Texas is considered a bonus.
- Available for 12 hour shifts. (7am-7pm or 7pm-7am)
