Position Overview
The logistics coordinator plays an essential role in the organization. They will coordinate daily outbound and inbound shipments as needed. Communicate daily – internally with customer service, warehouse and production, and externally with carriers. Review and monitor shipment delivery timeline to ensure it reaches the customer quickly and safely. Resolve issues related to damaged and missing drums. The logistics coordinator reports to the Supply Chain Manager in Elk Grove Village.
Requirements:
Essential Duties are those that are critical, integral, necessary, crucial, primary, and/or fundamental. These essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform.
- Prepare daily shipping documents (Pick List, Packing Slip, BOL, customs documents).
- Schedule carrier pickups daily and customer returns as needed.
- Get rate quotes for every shipment sent out daily, compare rates against other carriers to find best rate and upload rates to spreadsheet.
- Work with an international customs broker to arrange shipments to other countries by preparing all necessary documents.
- File claims with carriers for damaged and missing drums.
- Prepare documents and ship warehouse transfer orders.
- Prepare outgoing domestic and international packages and generating documents.
- Close production batch tickets daily by entering materials consumed and quantities produced focusing on accuracy and timeliness to ensure inventories are correct.
- Coordinate coil pickups from customers and metal slitters.
- Coordinate with customers the return of damaged drums and used totes.
- Approve freight and FedEx Express charges on 3PL Portal.
- Back-up for various production and admin reporting.
- Resolves discrepancies with customer service regarding invoices, packing slips, and delivery reports.
Required Training
- Employee must have RCRA hazardous waste training within 6 months of assuming job responsibilities.
- Employee must have DOT training to prepare containers for shipment.
- Employee must have IATA training.
- Employee must complete all online safety training as outlined for the Shipping and Receiving group
- Employee must be trained and competent in all ISO Shipping and Receiving processes
- Employee must have yearly training on emergency planning, including fire safety.
- Employee must be familiar with SWPPP.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills – both internal and external.
- Ability to work and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Computer literate.
- Good problem solver to address freight issues, delays, damages etc.
- Ability to work under pressure, while maintaining and tactful and professional demeanor.
- To recognize that health and safety is an obligation of every employee and to take reasonable care of oneself and others and to comply with Beckers Health and Safety policy and any Beckers procedures/rules that apply to the role. All employees have the obligation highlight unsafe conditions and EHS Managers, Officers, Supervisors and above have the obligation to shut down any activity if it is operating in an unsafe condition.
Minimum Requirements
- Associate's degree or at least 1-2 years’ experience.
- Proven proficiency with MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Physical Requirements
- Employee must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time, bend, squat, walk and climb.
- Employee must reach above shoulder level, use fine finger movements.
- Employee may be exposed at times to excessive noise, moving machinery, marked changes in temperature and/or humidity.
- Employee may be exposed to dust, fumes, gases, and chemicals.
- Employee must be able to carry/lift loads of up to 35 lbs.
