The Paraprofessional/Instructional Aide at Catalyst Schools works with a teacher team to implement the curriculum and ensure the success of the students at the grade level in which he/she is working. The Paraprofessional/Instructional Aide is responsible to the teacher of the classroom to which he/she is assigned, the Principal and other designated administrative staff.
Duties of the Paraprofessional/Instructional Aide include:
Helping the teachers plan and implement classroom activities
- Preparing by becoming familiar with course texts and materials
- Taking on duties as assigned by classroom teachers and administrative staff
- Working one on one with individual students as assigned by the classroom teachers
- Assist teachers by providing some secretarial assistance (e.g. making copies, typing necessary teacher generated classroom materials, etc.)
- Communicate with teachers about students’ needs and progress

- Seek out knowledge to improve teaching skills: read educational journals, learn about content area subject matter; probe more deeply into the programs being used in the classroom and school. Learn about and reflect on Lasallian pedagogy and implement it in the classroom.

- Keep self and space neat and clean and dress professionally.
- Address conflict as soon as it arises with another staff member appropriately and not in front of children; use good communication skills to address issues privately, respectfully, professionally and quickly.
- Work independently without having to be “watched” and communicate and strengthen grade or departmental team relationships by working collaboratively and in a way that fosters individual accountability for each person.
- Teach students social graces (e.g. “yes” instead of “uh-huh”, “no” instead of “uh-uh”, “please”, “thank you”, “may I”) that will empower them to interact with any person in an a mature and socially accepted manner.
Qualifications, requirements and preferences:
