SUMMARY
UnidosUS seeks a dynamic and experienced Senior Manager, Nutrition and Food Security, Health to manage its efforts in advancing a food and nutrition strategy (programs and policy). The Senior Manager, Nutrition and Food Security, Health is a member of the Health team and is responsible for the project management of WIC CIAO project and for advancing food and nutrition programs and relevant policy work. This position will also play a pivotal role in continuing the UnidosUS’ commitment to impactful advocacy, focusing on critical reform debates at the national, state and local level, particularly in areas such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). The Senior Manager, Nutrition and Food Security, Health will be responsible for managing the implementation of the new strategic direction, working closely with the health policy team to conduct research and policy analyses, driving programmatic advocacy efforts, managing budgets, and nurturing key relationships to drive positive change in food and nutrition programs and policy. This position reports to the Senior Director of Health, collaborates closely with the Health Policy team, Program Manager leads and Program Specialists including a supervisory role, to oversee successful implementation of program activities and timely achievement of all deliverables. This position also collaborates closely across the Health and other components at UnidosUS to identify process improvements and best practices. This is a hybrid position based in Washington, DC.
Salary: $81,300 to $92,825 (salary differentials may apply outside of the Washington DC area.)
Essential Functions
Strategic Management: Support the execution of strategic plans to advance food and nutrition program, practice and policy objectives aligned with UnidosUS's mission. Assess the landscape and contribute to the thought leadership to influence critical reform debates at the national level, including 1) enhancing federal nutrition assistant programs; 2) Strengthen partnerships 3) Improve food choices and expand cultural affirming health education. Analytical thinker and problem solver that delivers excellence within a diverse and hybrid team.
Program Management:
- Oversee the development of program content including: tool kits, educational materials, training modules, and social media content that are culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate.
- Develop, plan, coordinate, and deliver effective in-person and virtual training sessions, technical assistance calls, and convenings or other in-person events to assist UnidosUS Affiliates and subgrantees in launching and successfully implementing food and nutrition programs and initiatives in local communities.
- Identify and oversee coordination of strategic support to Affiliate partners in program development, data collection, monitoring and evaluation, and program expansion, replication and sustainability.
- Provide guidance and technical assistance related to addressing food and nutrition security, health equity, and health promotion topics to program sites and foster relationships with key contacts.
- Ensure deliverables are met; milestones and timeline are adhered. Provide direct support and/or backstops the development and updating of contracts with sub grantees and consultants, administering requests for payments, logistical coordination of project-related activities and events, and maintaining relevant project-related files.
- Perform other relevant duties and responsibilities as assigned to deliver excellence and project completion.
Data Management and Evaluation:
- Supports and implements standardized data collection systems to be used in program management and advocacy in collaboration with the data and/or health analyst lead staff.
- Lead online technical assistance and professional development. Provide guidance and data collection support to Affiliates to strengthen program model, deliverables, and outcomes, including compliance with memoranda of understanding of contracts and agreed scopes of work.
- Monitor program implementation and collect accountability, qualitative, quantitative and/or evaluation reports from participating sites.
- Support the overall data and fiscal management of Health programs and/or initiatives, as assigned, including working with UnidosUS staff, program Affiliates, external evaluators, and consultants to conduct formal program evaluation of select health programs.
- Oversee the collection of lessons learned within both the work with Affiliates and the Health component, including data capture, analysis, interpretation, and application for other programs within the Health component.
- Support in creating and improving processes and systems as it relates to program oversight and grant management (such as the use of project management tools).
Policy Research and Advocacy:
- Collaborate closely with the Health Policy and Advocacy team on research, analysis, and development of advocacy strategies related to food and nutrition policy and practice change.
- Serve as a spokesperson on relevant issues, effectively communicating UnidosUS's positions and needs to affiliates/community organizations.
Budget Management and Fundraising:
- Manage the budget for food and nutrition program initiatives, ensuring effective allocation of resources, monitoring and reporting with senior team members.
- Lead fundraising efforts, cultivating relationships with foundations and other potential donors to secure funding for program, policy and research work.
- Monitor, draft, and submit program/projects funder reports that indicate progress and impact with guidance from program director.
- Identify opportunities to expand programs and initiatives with diverse funders and partners through proposal development led by directors and leadership.
Relationship Building:
- Establish and nurture strategic relationships with allies, partners, policymakers, and stakeholders to advance UnidosUS's food and nutrition program and policy agenda.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including other divisions within UnidosUS and external coalitions, to maximize impact.
Team Management
- Manage and evaluate a team of professionals dedicated to food and nutrition security, specifically programs and practice.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to ensure the team's success in achieving programmatic goals.

Communications:
- Prepare written internal and external reports, updates, materials, and other necessary communications (e.g. blogs, issue briefs, fact sheets, workshop content, presentations, etc.) on relevant public health information as required.
- Support dissemination of evidence-based and culturally relevant programs information, announcements, digital materials, and tools.
- Work with the UnidosUS marketing and communications, and information technology support staff to help create and manage information on the UnidosUS website and social media outlets. Represent UnidosUS and the Health team in professional setting, including as a panelist, facilitator, or moderator, and via media opportunities. Communicate and collaborate with UnidosUS staff and relevant staff in headquarters and field offices.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education and Experience
- Education: Master’s degree in Public Health or related field preferred. Bachelor’s degree required.
- Experience: Seven to nine years of progressive relevant experience in public health, health policy, or related fields, with a focus on food and nutrition programming or policy. Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, project management, fundraising/proposal development, policy advocacy, budget management, and team leadership.
- Travel: Ability to travel domestically to UnidosUS events or program sites, approximately three (3) to four (4) times a year.
- Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of the Latino community.
