We are looking for an enthusiastic, responsible Robotics Coach for our Fall 2024 semester. Training will begin in July 2024. No prior experience with robotics is needed, but it is helpful. Anyone who enjoys working with children or with interest or experience in STEM or education is encouraged to apply.
As a Robotics Coach, you will guide and mentor students, ages 10 to 18, in various robotics programs, including First Lego League (FLL) and First Tech Challenge (FTC), at a school on the Upper West Side.
Responsibilities:
- Summer Responsibilities
- Participating in weekly paid training sessions to familiarize with the curriculum, robotics kits, programming languages, and competition guidelines.
- Assisting in the preparation of materials and resources for the upcoming Fall semester robotics workshops.
- Collaborating with fellow coaches and staff members to refine teaching strategies and lesson plans for optimal student engagement.
- Fall 2024 Responsibilities
- Lead weekly after-school robotics workshops, following a lesson plan guide, helping students build and program robots for various challenges. ($25-$35/hour or more based on expertise/experience).
- Prepare the team for regional and national competitions, fostering creativity, design thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and collaboration.
- Manage the team's schedule to ensure they meet important milestones.
Qualifications:
- Experience managing and teaching children ages 10-18
- Any college student or graduate, especially in a relevant field (education, engineering, computer science) or equivalent, is encouraged to apply
- Leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to adapt to diverse learning styles and maintain professional communication
- Knowledge of coding, 3D CAD, LEGO robotics, Rev Robotics, and Vex Robotics a plus
