Work Environment: NGL offers a flexible work environment where employees can work fully remote, hybrid or onsite at our Madison, Wis. office. We support virtual working arrangements in certain states outside of WI.
A Day in the Life:
This position performs actuarial tasks of mathematical and quantitative nature in support of reserving and financial reporting in the Corporate area of the Actuarial department.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform regular valuation and financial reporting tasks accurately and efficiently in order to complete actuarial filings, such as statutory, tax, and other regulatory reporting.
- Perform maintenance / updating of valuation actuarial systems, databases, and processes for initiatives such as new products, technology, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead efforts to make process improvements to reduce both manual work and errors.
- Build and execute controls around key processes (SOX, MAR, etc.).
- Communicate effectively with internal / external parties and auditors.
- Provide support for actuarial modeling and reporting for regulatory, financial, pricing, and other purposes.
Essential to Your Success:
- Strong mathematical background and problem-solving ability, with the skills and experience to work independently and bring and execute solutions to complex problems
- Advanced Valuation experience, including statutory (annual statement / Blue Book), tax and other regulatory reporting; with a deep understanding of actuarial guidelines, reserving regulations, and tax laws
- Advanced Database and technical experience (including development and maintenance skills using SQL, Python, VBA, Access, or similar tools)
- Intermediate to Advanced experience with actuarial software such as ArcVal, SLOPE, or comparable software
- Fluent with PC software such as Microsoft Excel and Access
- Strong experience with a variety of Life Insurance products. Some exposure to annuities, A&H, and LTC a plus.
- Strong analytical abilities and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex issues to peers, auditors, and IT resources
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related area, or equivalent experience.
Actuarial Credentials:
- Associate Actuary: Career ASA and MAAA credentials in good standing
- Actuary: FSA (ILA track) and MAAA credentials in good standing
Years of Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years of Actuarial experience with a minimum of 7 years in a reserving/financial reporting role in the life insurance industry required.
