The Old Colony YMCA contracts with the MA Department of Youth Services (DYS) to provide 24 hour services for youth aged 11 - 18 years old who have been detained by the Juvenile Court and await their next court date. Educational, clinical, health and recreational services are provided daily. In addition services are provided to DYS committed youth who are in violation of their parole and in need of treatment services to address their behavior and return to the community.
The Old Colony YMCA currently has several openings in each program for Shift Supervisors. Under the supervision of the Shift Administrator, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the overall operation of their shift. This person will ensure that program policies and procedures are adhered to by the Youth Care Advocate staff and is responsible for supervision and development of direct care staff, who will provide a healthy, safe, secure and clean environment where every youth is afforded the respect and dignity needed to enhance his self-worth.
Typical job responsibilities include:
· Ensure that Youth Care Advocates maintain program security and carry out YMCA, DYS and OCCS policies while servicing the youth of this program
· Follow the policies and procedures of dispensing medication to clients
· Review all intake paperwork and place clients on Suicide/Run Watch as necessary
· Attend all scheduled unit meetings, (full staff meetings, behavioral and supervisor's meetings)
· Provide support to any shift in a crisis situation
· Ensure that the dress code policy is followed by all staff
· Review all records and reports generated on the shift for accuracy and clarity
· Report any suspected child abuse to the Assistant Director and/or Director
· Plan, coordinate and direct clients’ activities
· Complete (accurately and on time), discharge/termination reports on residents who finish the program
· Schedule staff on assigned shifts, ensuring proper staff coverage, and not leaving until coverage has arrived
· Supervise Youth Care Advocates as assigned by the Shift Administrator
· Ensure that clients’ monthly reports are completed each month by the Youth Care Advocates
· Assist in screening, training, evaluating and supervising the performance of the Youth Care Advocates
· Monitor the program’s supply inventory on a monthly basis
· Ensure that all petty cash receipts and unit policies/procedures are followed
· Direct the cleaning and upkeep of the entire program including bedrooms, hallways, visitors’ lounge, offices and reception area to ensure a safe and secure environment
· Ensure all emergency equipment is maintained, i.e. first aid, fire extinguisher, etc.
· Establish and maintain positive working relationships as well as provide leadership when working with volunteers
Education and experience requirements:
· Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent knowledge
· Minimum of at least one year of direct experience
· Capable of consistently and successfully dealing with clients with severe, emotional and behavioral problems
· Must have visual and auditory acuity in order to maintain security of the program
