Towson University is a Division I member of the Coastal Athletics Association and is seeking two Assistant Coach positions for the Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving program. These positions, under the direction of the head coach, teach and provide instruction in the sport of swimming and assist in the planning, promotion, and administration of a quality Division I Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving program.
Responsibilities and Duties
Duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Coaches for Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide skill instruction for student athletes, which includes independent planning and implementation of a season long plan for a set group of athletes
- Under the direction of the head coach, recruit and evaluate prospective student-athletes through the use of New Media Technologies; organize official visits, including assigning hosts; create travel itineraries and manage all budgetary elements of visits while adhering to all NCAA regulations; and track all admissions through the application process of our prospective student-athletes
- Work collaboratively within the structure and framework of an athletics department and university
- Confidently and competently lead training sessions for both men and women
- Assist with academic support, fundraising activities, and community servicing, including communication and outreach to alumni; coordinate with the Life Skills Program Director and track and maintain accurate records of all student-athlete participation in Life Skills programs; assist in all Meet Day operations including travel, bus, hotel, and restaurant plans; issue equipment as directed by the head coach
- Adhere to NCAA rules
- Complete monthly CARA logs, recruiting logs, and other end-of-year summaries and correspondence within ARMS and in coordination with the Office of Compliance Services
- Other duties consistent with the nature of the role
The work hours for this position include weekends, as required by practice and/or competitions. Travel is required up to 10% of the time for events and recruiting.
Occasional telework may be available for this position on an as needed basis following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
Qualifications and Skills
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Kinesiology, or a similar field
- One year of experience coaching swimming
- CPR, First Aid, AED certification
- Lifeguard Training and Coaches Safety Training
Any amount of experience with or demonstrated knowledge of:
- Stroke mechanics and how to teach this skill in multiple ways;
- NCAA rules;
- Developing and implementing a season long plan for a group of student-athletes;
- Recruiting potential student-athletes; and,
- Using and manipulating Microsoft Office products, including, but not limited to, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Salary and Benefits
Starting salary is $49,165. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position also includes up to 15 holidays and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.
