Afternoon, evening, and some Saturdays required for game coverage
Job Description
Mid Vermont Christian School (MVCS) seeks a dynamic Athletic Director with demonstrated ability to integrate the Christian worldview into all that transpires in and out of the school. This person will work successfully with a range of students (right now our athletic teams are grade 3-12) and parents, and seek to become part of our learning community. Outstanding candidates will be motivational to encourage students to love the Lord and love to learn and place a high value on communication with parents as we seek to partner with parents as they raise their children.
Depending on the candidate, this part-time position could become a full time if able to fulfill responsibilities of other PT positions like: physical Education, language or general education teacher, or even classroom aide.
PURPOSE: PREPARES STUDENTS FOR MEANINGFUL LIVES by contributing to their educational, social, and spiritual development. This will assist MVCS in fulfilling the mission of the school, which is to glorify God by preparing students for college and for life through a program of academic excellence established in Biblical truth
Qualifications
- Evidence of knowledge through experience and training
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Teacher State licensure or ACSI certification in areas of assignment preferred or willingness to seek these qualifications.
- Able to pass background, fingerprinting, and child and adult protection registry check
- Understanding of the principles of child development, best practices and educational methods
- Communication and instructional skills
- Ability to act as mediator between students
- Daily example of Christ both in and out of school; cool-tempered, friendly and reliable
- Balance between a creative mind and a practical judgement
- Able to prepare student for the next level
- Great love and patience for students
- Able to engage students and earn their trust and attention
- Spiritual, mature, born-again Christian who regularly attends a Bible- believing church.

Responsibilities

Communication and Professionalism
- Communicate with parents regularly
- Collaborate with other AD’s and the VPA
- Maintain confidentiality
- Comply with Federal, State and Local legal requirements
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge
- Contribute to MVCS system’s effectiveness
- Contributes to spiritual growth of the program through example, personal and professional studies, and personal devotions and worship
Specific to Athletic Director
- Oversee all day-to-day operations of the junior high and high school athletic programs
- Prepare and finalize all athletic events
- Prepare and set a yearly athletic budget
- Oversee the academic status of all student-athletes
- Organize all facility issues dealing with teams
- Communicate effectively with all surrounding schools, opponents, parents, and athletes
- Confirm all dates, times, and locations with opponents
- Input and keep current all games and practices in Sycamore
- Organize officials for all home sports events through the current association including submitting check requests for officials and paying officials
- Prepare and arrange all practice times for all teams
- Be responsible for all home basketball game operations by attending as many home contests as possible and maintain a supervisory role
- Arrange all travel dates and times for games including preparing class dismissal schedule for all athletic events and scheduling transportation and drivers for all athletic events
- Assign coaches, give written responsibilities and Statement of Responsibility to coaches, set coaches meetings, advise, and oversee all athletic coaches, updating their responsibilities
- Encourage all staff and volunteer coaches through various means
- Evaluate all staff coaches through an evaluation process
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and uniform inventory
- Dispense equipment and uniforms to coaches at the start of each season—collect items at the end of each season
- Collect all monetary funds that are received at all home basketball games
- Promote school scores and update any athletic stories to local papers
- Be involved with all JH and HS scheduling meetings / league meetings
- Purchase all athletic equipment, and uniforms
- Prepare all athletic banquets and programs (order all player awards, assign volunteers, M.C. the banquets)
- Be involved in the recruiting process of all vacant coaching positions
- Communicate by phone and letter through the course of the year to student-athlete parents
- Prepare weekly announcements of athletic events for the daily announcement sheet
- Update the athletic handbook, coach’s handbook, athletic wish list, and five-year plan
- Meet with the Head of School on an as needed basis
