POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Softball/Pitching Coach shall be responsible for directing and managing the softball program under the supervision of the Head Coach.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provide oversight for the pitching staff, including but not limited to, practice plans, gameday management, conditioning, off-season programming, and scouting reports.
Prepare and post detailed practice plans for pitchers, the night before each practice.
Prepare and post detailed practice plans for slappers, the night before each practice.
Coordinate and utilize appropriate hitting/pitching charts, scouting reports and game film to provide feedback and prepare for opponents.
Be an active part of each practice. Providing feedback and instruction to all players.
Maintain a competitive softball program by exhibiting improvements each season.
Establish and maintain a good relationship with high school and travel ball coaches.
Recruit quality athletes who are an asset to the institution, on the softball field, in the classroom, and in the community. Recruiting should be an ongoing, year-round endeavor with weekly updates communicated to the Head Softball Coach.
Assist with recruiting, campus tours, admissions materials, PLAYNAIA, etc. as requested by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Head Softball Coach.
Maintain ethical standards in the softball program to promote a positive, Christlike image of the College according to the student and staff handbook.
Ensure the academic progress of athletes by establishing study hall requirements, working with TLC staff, and enforcing weekly accountability reports.
Provide accountability by tracking player participation for resistance training workouts throughout the Fall and Spring season.
Strictly adhere to NAIA and Southern States Athletic Conference rules and regulations.
Ensure proper conduct by athletes on campus, on the softball field and at College functions.
Attend appropriate College meetings, chapel services, and cooperate with other campus units as needed.
Follow proper procedures in purchasing equipment, meals, gear, etc.
Maintain an inventory of all athletic equipment and practice gear.
Develop and maintain the softball complex. Specifically, but not limited to, bullpens and pitching circle on a daily/weekly basis.
Assist the Head Softball Coach in preparing the field for game day.
Coordinate bat testing, livestream, Gamechanger and dugout duties on game day.
Assist with the transportation of players on road trips.
Plan meals, snacks, and drinks for all road trips and whenever the cafeteria is closed. Coordinate with restaurants at least 24 hours in advance and cafeteria at least 48 hours in advance.
Assist with maintaining the program’s social media sites and school website.
Coordinate all softball camps and play days.
Take initiative in finding ways to improve the program when other responsibilities have been completed. Striving to fulfill your 40 hour/week obligations throughout the calendar year.
Maintain trust by keeping coach conversations confidential. Be especially diligent to not share private information with players, parents, and people outside the program.
Maintain loyalty by supporting the Head Softball Coach. Defending their reputation and decision making when appropriate.
Work cooperatively with the Athletic Director and Head Softball Coach in all areas of the softball program and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional office and locker room space.
Serve as a spiritual mentor to student-athletes.
Assist, as requested by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, with other athletic events.
Any other assignments made by the President, the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, or the Head Softball Coach.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Committed follower of Jesus Christ.
Former college playing/coaching experience
Baccalaureate required; Master’s degree preferred.
Experience and evidence of successful coaching of softball.
Understanding of the role of the Intercollegiate Athletic Program at a Christian College.
Excellent oral and communication skills.
Motivator and role model for student athletes.
Understanding of, adherence to, and enforcement of safety procedures.
Fostering of a cooperative and trusting environment.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
Ability to travel.
Valid driver license with good driving record; must be insurable.
This is a full-time, 12-month, 40 hour/week job. Vacation plans and outside employment opportunities must be approved by the Head Softball Coach and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
