For the Pastry Chef role at La Farine Pâtisserie et Café, we seek a culinary artist who is passionate about creating exquisite pastries and baked goods. This position involves upholding food safety standards, managing ingredient inventory, developing innovative recipes, and fulfilling special orders and catering requests with expertise and creativity, contributing to the bakery's reputation on the Upper West Side.
Responsibilities & Expectations:
- Ensure all bakery products, including a variety of breads, pastries, sandwiches, salads, and soups, are prepared in compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
- Source high-quality ingredients for bakery products, effectively manage inventory, and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure consistent quality and availability.
- Develop and refine recipes for a wide range of baked goods, from traditional breads to innovative pastries, catering to both sweet and savory preferences.
- Oversee the preparation of bakery orders and catering requests, ensuring high-quality standards are met for both presentation and taste.
- Collaborate with the bakery team to produce a dynamic and appealing menu that reflects seasonal availability and current food trends.
- Lead, train, and inspire bakery staff in the art of baking and pastry making, emphasizing technique, efficiency, and creativity.
- Manage the bakery's production schedule to optimize workflow, enhance productivity, and ensure the freshness of bakery offerings.
- Conduct quality control checks on all ingredients and finished products to uphold the bakery's reputation for excellence.
- Coordinate bakery operations with management to support special events, seasonal offerings, and promotional activities.
- Monitor inventory levels, anticipate needs for upcoming demands, and manage orders to maintain optimal stock levels while minimizing waste.
Skills & Requirements:
- Food Protection Certified
- Proficient in various baking techniques and working with different types of dough and pastries.
- Culinary arts or specific pastry training preferred, showcasing a deep understanding of baking science.
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-paced environment, ensuring consistent quality.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, essential for a harmonious kitchen operation.
- Availability for early mornings, weekends, and holidays, aligning with bakery hours.
- Physical stamina for demanding kitchen work, including lifting heavy ingredients.
- At least 18 years of age, with a passion for the craft of baking.
Shifts Needed:
Early mornings to early aftrenoons five days a week, weekend included religiously.
Compensation & Benefits:
- $70,000 - $85,000 in annual salary (based on experience)
- Paid time off & sick time (after waiting period)
