General Summary:
The Brain Stimulation Mechanisms Laboratory (BSML) is seeking a self-motivated applicant to join the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Research (TMS) Program in the Division of Depression and Anxiety Disorders at McLean Hospital. We aim to understand the neural mechanisms of non-invasive brain stimulation including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and to leverage this knowledge to improve clinical effectiveness.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides assistance on clinical research studies as per study guidelines and protocols.
2. Recruits and evaluates potential study patients. Per protocol instruction, conducts telephone interviews or schedules patient for study visit and screening. May be required to perform clinical tests such as phlebotomy, EEG’s, etc.
3. Interact with patients/subjects with regard to study, including patient education, procedural instruction, follow-up. May serve as a liaison between patient and physician.
4. Responsible for collecting data and maintaining patient information database for study. May be required to input data, do minimum analysis and run various reports. Maintains patients records as part of record keeping function.
5. Responsible for mailing various study information or packets to study participants.
6. Answers any phone all and inquiries regarding study protocol. Refers participants when appropriate to supervisor or clinical staff.
7. Monitors and sets up any needed equipment.
8. Maintains inventory and orders supplies when necessary.
9. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required:
§ Experience with neurophysiology, neuromodulation and neurobehavioral assays are preferred but not required
§ Self-motivated
§ High degree of computer literacy
§ Sound analytical and organizational skills
§ Demonstrated ability to analyze data using statistics
§ Ability to locate and troubleshoot problems
§ Comprehensive linguist and presentation skills
§ Familiarity with programs such as Epic and RedCap is helpful
§ Programming capabilities preferred, including platforms like Matlab, R or Python
§ Strong interest in neuroscience and mechanisms of disease and treatments necessary
§ Works well with others in team setting
§ Maintains professionalism in dealing with human subjects including psychiatric patients
Education:
Experience:
- 3 or more years of post-degree experience
Supervisory Responsibility:
- May supervise the Research Assistant I and IIs
