The Sage School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Student Dean and Administrative Support Coordinator for our Beginners - Grade 8 program. The ideal candidate will embrace a restorative practices philosophy and will support student behavior management through restorative approaches that focus on building relationships, community, and repairing harm, while also assisting with operational matters at the school. This individual is a member of the Student Support Team in their capacity as Student Dean. This is a teaching role and the ideal candidate will also hold responsibilities in the Math Department.
The Student Dean & Administrative Support Coordinator reports to the Assistant Head of School for Community Life and the Assistant Head of School for Academics. Key Responsibilities: Behavioral Support & Restorative Practices Implementation: .Manage and address student disciplinary issues, leading with restorative methods.Take the lead in investigating reported behavioral incidents, bullying, or concerning behavior Maintain accurate records of student behavior incidents and resolutions.Communicate proactively and often with parents/guardians, sometimes navigating difficult conversationsFacilitate and model the use of restorative conversations, restorative circles, and conflict resolution meetings; support and promote the integration of restorative practices within the school environment.Collaborate regularly with the Student Support Team (School Nurse, School Counselor, Learning Specialist) to help ensure student wellbeing and successSuggest and implement plans for students exhibiting behavioral challenges (low-level support); coordinate with classroom teachers for consistencyProfessional Development, Leadership & Administrative Duties: Schedule and coordinate substitute teachers when faculty or staff have scheduled or sick-day absencesEnsure faculty have appropriate sub plans for their sick-day absences, as well as a sub-folder for emergency absences or leavesConduct workshops and training sessions, as needed, for faculty & staff.Assist with administrative and organizational tasks needed to smooth operationsMentor and support classroom teachers; this may be in implementing effective restorative classroom management strategies, in managing student behavior, in meeting expectations for sub plans, and in creating safe, community-oriented classroom environments.Stay current with best practices and emerging trends in education and in restorative practices.Community Building: Foster a positive, inclusive school culture that promotes respect, responsibility, and community.Organize and lead activities that strengthen school spirit and community engagement.Serve as a liaison between students, families, and school staff to ensure a supportive learning environment.Be a positive role model for students, foster a safe environment for students to bring forth concerns, and embody a balance between holding fair/firm expectations and projecting a warm, approachable demeanorDemonstrate a community mindset by being a presence at school events and assisting in administrative tasksTeaching Responsibilities: Teach two middle school math classes to bright, curious (and often above-grade level) students.All Upper School (gr 5-8) teachers may have additional duties as an advisor to a group of students.Qualifications: Education & ExperienceBachelors degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field (Masters preferred).Minimum of 5 years of experience in a school setting, as a teacher or in a student-facing administrative roleExperience in student life, advising, or community developmentSkills: An understanding of the principles of restorative practices, experience facilitating restorative practices OR a willingness to engage in training or professional developmentExcellent communication, mediation, and conflict resolution skills; comfort navigating conversations with familiesStrong relational skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.Ability to work collaboratively and take initiativePossess a strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a kind spirit.Don't meet every requirement?
