POSITION SUMMARY
The Medication Technician provides routine resident care as defined in Residency and Service Agreements. Medication Technician maintains adequate supplies of medications, medication records and assists with medications - communicates with families and physicians as assigned.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Medications
· Maintain adequate supplies of all prescribed medications
· Log in new supplies of medications
· Ensure that medications are delivered at times and in doses prescribed
· Complete medication record for each resident
· Notify supervisor (Medication Manager, Assistant ALD, or ALD) of medication refusal, unusual reactions, and changes in condition or irregularities
· Clean the med cart, med fridge and specimen fridge weekly
· Keep medication office and work space clean and free of clutter
Resident Care
· Supervise resident care for assigned residents
· Report irregularities to your supervisor (Medication Manager, Assistant ALD, or ALD), family, and physicians
· Have knowledge of transfer techniques involving moving residents from a bed, chair, toilet, or tub/shower
· Chart Vital Signs and Weight as assigned
· Be willing to work overtime, various shifts, and weekends, when management deems it necessary
· Make regular rounds of resident apartments to assure there are no irregularities in behavior, dress, grooming, etc. and report any irregularities to your supervisor
· Complete resident incident reports and notify all parties necessary
· Other duties as assigned by management
Training
· Attend mandatory in-services monthly and ongoing per department
· Attend ongoing training for Eldermark and Infinity Pharmacy as needed
· Complete Relias training by its required date
OSHA/SAFETY/WELLNESS
Safety/Hazards Care and Compliance:
· Facilitate care, cleanliness, and maintenance of equipment and work area, and adhere to all local health permit regulations
Safety/Hazards Regulations:
· Observe all safety requirements in job performance
· Participate in in-service training
· Report all safety concerns to the Executive Director

PREVENTION: Bend knees; Keep back straight; Use proper lifting technique; Ask for assistance.
HAZARD: Muscle Strain, Muscle Pull
CAUSES: Lifting, Reaching, Carrying, and Squatting
PREVENTION: Adjust posture frequently; Use proper lifting technique; Use proper equipment; Ask for assistance.
HAZARD: Leg Injury, Leg Strain
CAUSES: Lifting, Stooping, and Squatting
PREVENTION: Adjust posture frequently; Adjust posture frequently; Use proper equipment; Ask for assistance.
HAZARD: Cuts, Hand Lacerations
CAUSES: Use of scissors or sharp objects.
PREVENTION: Use proper equipment; Pay attention to tasks;
HAZARD: Eye Strain
CAUSES: Computer Work
PREVENTION: Look away from the screen frequently; Take breaks.
HAZARD: Contact with Blood, and Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens
CAUSES: Administration of meds
PREVENTION: Use caution when using needles; Always wear protective gloves; Always put needles in sharps container.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· Employee must speak, understand and write fluently in English
· Employee must have a neat and clean appearance and adhere to the Uniform Policy for their position
· Employee must be familiar with employment practices as detailed in the Employee Handbook
· Employee is required to work their assigned schedule
· Maintain good company relations by delivering prompt, warm and courteous service in a manner consistent with our philosophy. Provide overall support which assists communities in resident and employee management and retention
· Strong time management skills with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines despite frequent interruptions
· Capable of working on multiple tasks simultaneously, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
Physical Requirements
Some physical demands of the job may include: sitting, walking, standing, lifting, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, carrying, and squatting intermittently throughout the day. Employee may be required to lift objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted.
