Job Description - Recreation Leader II
The District-
The district is an independent, special, recreation and park district governed by a five-member, elected Board of Directors. Formed in 1956 as a Recreation and Parkway District, the Fulton-El Camino Recreation and Park District was established to provide land and recreation opportunities for the growing suburbs of Sacramento County. Currently the district comprises 80 acres of developed parkland and two undeveloped acres.
Program Area Responsibility
Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Assistant, and Recreation Supervisor, assists with a variety of recreational programming and performs related work required as it pertains to Pre-School, Before and After School, Camp Programs, Special Events, Community Classes, and Senior Programs.
Definition
This position will involve assisting in the promotion, planning, assisting, coordinating, guiding, directing, implementing, evaluating, training and direct involvement in conducting a variety of District- wide recreation activities. Be confident, enthusiastic, and prepared.
Essential Functions
Includes, but not limited to the following:
- Assists in the day-to-day activities of youth and senior program operations; forms, planning, implementation, and distribution of the children’s and communities needs daily in programming.
- Ensure the programs activities are ready and prepared in advance.
- Coordinates part-time recreation leaders and volunteers with activities.
- Aids in the recruitment, selection, communication and training of seasonal employees, part time employees, and volunteers.
- Plans and conducts a wide range of volunteer recruitment activities.
- Assists in determining the leisure needs of the community .
- Assist in the first aid of participants and public.
- Communicates daily with supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisory authority.
Knowledge of
- Preparing schedules and reports, effective oral and written communications, timesheets, tracking employee time and other related administrative material as assigned.
- Issuing, receive and maintain records as to the proper care of recreation equipment and facilities by participants.

- Ability to meet and deal tactfully with members of the public.
- Follow through on activities, projects, behaviors, parent connections, paperwork, and clean up.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of modern methods, techniques and procedures used in the planning and coordination of leisure programs; principles and practices of employee selection, training, supervision, and evaluation; basic methodology of organizing groups, programs, and services in a recreational setting; communication skills, decision making, proficient writing skills, budget management, and public information. Must pass DOJ background prior to working with children.
Minimum Education and Qualifications
- Two years paid experience in recreation childcare programming or related field.
- Ability to work with Computer programs with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Desktop Publishing, and Spreadsheets.
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment
· Must obtain certificates in CPR for the professional rescuer and community First Aid within 90 days of employment.
· Possession of a valid California State Motor Vehicle Operators License, and a good driving record.
Physical Demand
Sitting; standing; walking over uneven ground; lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying (infrequently up to 50 lbs.); kneeling; stooping; bending; squatting; swimming.; close vision; distance vision; use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; driving vehicle.
Environmental Demands
Outside: Frequently and routinely works outside in a variety of weather conditions ranging from cold rainy
weather to +100º F. Inside: Routinely works indoors inside in a temperature –controlled environment.
Fumes/Gases: Exposure to fumes from pool chemicals, perfumes/colognes. Noise/Vibrations: Office Machines,
exposure to outside noise. Moderate exposure to outdoor noise.
Mental Requirements
Reading: Reads manuals, reports, evaluations, math skills.
Writing Requirements
Writes letters, reports, memos, etc.
Judgment
Ability to work independently, prioritize work and make decisions regarding correct formatting of work and implementation of same. Define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Social Skills
Ability to relate cooperatively with staff of local agencies, members of the public, Directors, and District personnel on a constant and face to face basis.
Hours of Work
30 hours per week; Monday through Friday; Mandatory staff meetings as required.
Additional hours may be required for extra program planning, or special events.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.61 - $18.49 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 30 per week
