General Position Summary:
Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity’s Grants Manager manages pre-award and post-award activities for a diverse portfolio of grants. This position is responsible for researching potential funders and identifying grant opportunities that align with Habitat’s programs, services, and new initiatives. This position works collaboratively across teams to craft compelling, clear, and accurate written materials for grant proposals and reports in keeping with each funder’s guidelines and deadlines. This position ensures we maintain compliance in accordance with grant agreements and terms, submitting reports and documents as required by funders. This position is responsible for achieving the annual monetary goals set for funding generated through grants to support Habitat’s mission.
Core Responsibilities:

Initiates and writes persuasive, error-free grant applications and proposals. Works with Habitat staff to develop and finalize proposals.

Pursues grant opportunities that support funding priorities of Habitat, including from an existing base of grantors.

Conducts research and identifies potential funding from grantors, including private, corporate, and government sources whose stated interests, guidelines, and funding patterns align with the strategic vision and priorities of Habitat.

Compiles data and writes grant reports in coordination with other departments.

Maintains proposal and reporting calendar to effectively meet all deadlines, including stewardship and reporting requirements established by funders and Habitat for Humanity International.

Ensures we maintain compliance with grant requirements and conditions, submitting reports and documents as needed, including those required by government sources such as City of Des Moines or Iowa Finance Authority.

Engages the CEO of Habitat and other staff in the cultivation and solicitation of key grantors, as appropriate.

Maintains accurate and up-to-date information about grantors in Salesforce database.

Maintains dashboard with current organizational data used often in grants.

Performs other related duties and special projects as required or as assigned.
Requirements:
Skills and Requirements:

Proven success in grant and proposal writing for non-profit organizations highly preferred

Excellent writing and editing skills

Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy

Inquisitive / Research experience and ability to think creatively

Ability to work well with a variety of personalities and varying organizational dynamics

Must be punctual, able to manage multiple projects, and work effectively within specific project timelines

Command of the English language. Proper grammar, usage, and punctuation

Ability to write compelling, descriptive, and persuasive content

Desire to work in the nonprofit sector with a faith-based organization

Must be well organized, a self-starter, and able to carry out assignments in a fast-paced environment with only limited direction

Ability to work independently and as a part of a team

Experience working with and creating budgets a plus

Experience with Salesforce CRM a plus

Experience with Habitat for Humanity and/or affordable housing a plus

Some evening and weekend availability required
