Organization Description
CDSC’s mission is to provide programs that empower families by helping them to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for successful living in today's society. Since its beginning, CDSC has prioritized its services to benefit low-income, subsidy eligible children and families and the early care and education programs that serve them. CDSC is lead agency for NYC Regional Infant Toddler Services delivered in partnership with the NYC Child Care Resource and Referral Consortium and sponsor of Family Child Care Network Services (FCCN) for affiliated childcare providers.
Essential Functions:
The primary role of the Education Specialist is to support Network educational services for children enrolled in affiliated provider homes, through the provision of strengths based coaching and professional learning for affiliated family/group family childcare providers that aligns with NYC Department of Education Early Learning standards and Early Childhood framework for Quality.
Program Specific Responsibilities
Affiliated Provider Support
- Participate in prospective provider interviews, including the review and clarification of educational and professional development policies and procedures.
- Assist in planning and implementation of Affiliated Provider orientation and onboarding activities
- Virtual or in-person site visits to assess readiness for the provision of 3-K for all and Infant Toddler services
- Recommend equipment and educational materials for purchase with startup grants to support enrolled children’s healthy growth and development
- Program and Child Screening Assessment using research based tools to determine areas of strength and areas needing additional support
- Support implementation of Teaching Strategies Gold Curriculum in Affiliated Provider Homes, including data entry
- Support Affiliated providers implementation of 3K for all program goals and standards and birth-two programs for children younger children where applicable
- Provide onsite strengths based coaching and modeling of appropriate practice in mixed age settings to support 17 Affiliated Providers in meeting program and education requirements.
- Assist affiliated providers in conducting child observations, assessments and timely data entry to support curriculum and lesson planning.
Support Professional Development for Affiliated Providers
- Attend regular meetings of educational and network staff
- Assist in planning required professional learning days for Affiliated Providers in partnership with the Education Director
- Participate in Network staff professional learning sessions delivered by the Department of Education.
- Support affiliated providers who are working toward the completion of a CDA certification or other higher early childhood education degree.
Data Collection and Reporting
- Ensure timely documentation of affiliated provider home visits and alignment with the DOE’s Early Childhood Framework for Quality (EFQ).
- Ensure timely administration of the ASQ for all enrolled children in provider homes
- Prepare monthly reports re: affiliated provider interactions, program assessments and child screening outcomes
- Collect and enter program data in accordance with NYC Department of Education program requirements
- Attend monthly Network Team Meetings and/or bi-weekly educational team meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Family Engagement & Education
- Support affiliated providers to ensure consistent engagement of families in their programs
- Assist in the planning and/or facilitation of family education and engagement activities
- Assist in the recruitment and enrollment of children and families
Establishing Community Partnerships, Marketing Network Services
- Maintain relationships with community partners who provide health, mental health, early intervention, special needs, and other support services for all affiliated providers and families.
Qualifications
- BA or BS in Early Childhood Education or Infant-Toddler Studies (required)
- Willingness to conduct site visits within the Network’s Catchment Area (required)
- 5 or more years of experience as Head teacher in charge of curriculum development, lesson planning, and working with team members
- Relevant work experience supporting family child care and/or group family child care programs a plus
- Knowledge of NYC public and private child care systems a plus
- Experience in the delivery of multilingual and multicultural educational programs for children birth-5 years and families in classroom and/or home based settings reflective of NYC communities (required)
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and Saturdays
Skills
- NYS Training and/or Coaching Credential and/or Adult Education Experience a plus
- Experienced in the use of research-based Program Assessment and Child Screening Tools a plus
- Computer literate, proficient in the of use of Microsoft Office Applications and Virtual Media Platforms
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent Time Management and Organizational Skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
- Excellent Writing and Communication Skills
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $44,000.00 - $46,200.00 per year
