Position Summary
Performs the essential duties, responsibilities, and the primary functions of a manager of the Birth Center. Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of these patients. Responsible for meeting established standards of clinical nursing practice. Responsible for managing department supplies, equipment and personnel. Responsible form promoting team work with physicians and personnel of other departments. Responsible for solving a wide variety of problems including specific patient complaints and / or satisfaction. Responsible for interpreting instructions furnished in written and oral form. This position provides direct patient care for pregnant women and newborn patients.

Key Accountabilities:
Provides Clinical and Operational Leadership
In collaboration with the Director, communicates the mission, values, strategic plan and department goals.
Serves as a resource and support person in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
Maintains current knowledge of trends and advances in nursing practice and professional leadership.
Coordinates with the Director to ensure availability and operation of necessary equipment and supplies for resident care.
Manages staff
Interviews, hires, trains, coaches, manages performance and evaluates the staff.
Ensures adequate staffing. Collaborates with the Director to adjust staffing plans utilizing national staffing guidelines and department staffing plans.
Supports a Just Culture and a healthy work environment for positive employee relations and optimum performance that enables people to make good decisions and choose reliable behaviors for positive outcomes.
Ensures staff remain competent and in compliance with professional development and regulatory standards.
Maintains a healthy, collaborative team environment.

Leads quality measures and expectations
Promotes and monitors regulatory agency standards.
Upholds customer service expectations for the practice of all aspects of nursing in the department.
Ensures patient / resident concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
Monitors, implements, and participates in continuous quality improvement processes regarding topics pertinent to the department.
Communicates with the Director, various departments, and medical staff to resolve operational problems and improve quality of services.
Oversees staff development and education for department staff
Approves and contributes to the orientation and education programs for assigned personnel.
Coordinates the educational activities of the department with the Clinical Nurse Educator.
Communicates new / revised policies, protocols, standards and instructions to assigned personnel.
Creates an environment of professional growth and development.
Provides direct patient care as needed
Qualifications:
- Current RN license with the Minnesota Board of Nursing, in good standing
- Bachelor of Nursing degree (BSN) or an Associate degree in Nursing with a Bachelor of Science in another field of study (Must obtain a BSN or MSN within two years of hire).
- Current BLS must be enrolled in NH+C RQI program and complete the requirements within 90 days of enrollment. Must remain current (complete quarterly assignments prior to the end of each calendar quarter).
- Current ACLS must be enrolled in NH+C RQI program and complete the requirements within 90 days of enrollment. Must remain current (complete quarterly assignments prior to the end of each calendar quarter).
- Current NRP certification (if not current, will need to be obtained in the first 6 months).
- Current STABLE certification (if not current, will need to be obtained in the first 12 months).
- One to three years clinical experience in Labor and Delivery or Neonatal Care
- Initial Crisis Prevention Certification (CPI) within six months.
- Workplace Violence education in New Employee Orientation and annually thereafter.
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Management experience including personnel functions, budgeting, and staff supervision preferred
- Ability to relate to physicians and other health care professionals preferred
- Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks preferred
Schedule:
- 80hrs/2wks
- Primarily Monday-Friday, expected to help with patient care needs per unit demand.
- Start times varying per unit need
- No holiday requirements
