We are seeking a motivated individual to join our company as a Construction Estimator. As part of our team, you will generate detailed cost-analysis and scope of work estimates using historical data, contractor quotes, and site surveys. You provide clients with thorough explanations of pricing and cost details based on gathered data and supported with further estimates of projected maintenance costs and expected product lifetime.
Our ideal candidate has extensive prior experience in construction, consulting, and cost estimating. This position requires a person with proactive problem-solving, decision-making skills, and the initiative to work independently in a detail-oriented environment.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Preferred BS or BA degree in engineering or a science-related field (i.e. civil, mechanical, environmental engineering, construction management, estimating, etc).
- Experience in the following areas is a plus: civil construction projects oversight, scope development and implementation, project management, some knowledge of generation or transmission and/or distribution operations related to an electric utility.
- Five years of experience in civil construction, or environmental remediation estimating.
- Thorough knowledge of contract relationships, subcontracting, and vendor relations.
- Ability to read construction drawings.
- Lead the preparation of bids by working with a project manager and/or senior project manager regarding constructability issues.
- Lead the internal proposal process to develop responsive bids and proposals.
- Ability to synthesize technical information and communicate in a manner suitable for technical and non-technical personnel.
- Lead the preparation of quantity take-offs for cost estimation and proposal development.
- Work with project manager, senior project manager, general superintendent, and project foremen to arrange and manage company resources on all projects.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and maintain a flexible schedule which may include non-traditional hours and travel.
- Judgment skills necessary to make decisions, solve problems and implement solutions.
- Procure subcontract and material quotes. Review all subcontractors’ and suppliers’ quotes to ensure they meet specifications.
- Schedule and complete all duties with minimal direct supervision.
- Lead in-house pre-job meeting to review the scope of the project.
- Attend pre-job meetings with the owner as needed. Assist in the preparation of all documents (i.e.: schedule, material source letter, subcontractor letter, haul route request letter, others).
- During the life of the project, maintain original plans and specifications, maintain all revisions to plans and specifications, and distribute revisions to suppliers and subcontractors affected by revisions as needed.
- As needed, work at project sites to direct/assist the project foremen.
- As needed, lead in the project management of a wide range of project types.
- Contact suppliers, vendors and subcontractors, for quotes.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Generate detailed cost estimates of construction projects by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents
- Identify labor, material, and time requirements
- Track and manage awarded contracts including estimating change orders, additions, credits, materials, and more
- Conduct surveys and meet with clients to assess requirements, take measurements, photos, and collect data to be used in plan
- Visit work sites, inspect existing materials (if present), and gather data related to materials and labor costs
- Create cost comparisons with historical data of similar projects
- Solicit cost estimates from contractors
- Monitor progress of existing projects
- Working closely with the managers to schedule job and materials
- Reporting to Vice President daily to discuss project progress and upcoming needs

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
