Registered Nurse
RESPONSIBLE TO: Physician Owners and Nurse Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY: Provides professional nursing care and maintains quality patient care standards.
Coordinate clinical operations and assists with any duties pertaining to clinic and patient care, as directed.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Current Illinois RN license
- Minimum of one year of medical/surgical RN experience required, clinical setting preferred
- Certification in basic CPR by the American Heart Association
- Understanding of OSHA and HIPAA requirements
- Experience submitting pharmacy requests, prior authorization/pre-certification requests
- Working knowledge of managed care and Medicare policies
- Strong computer skills: knowledge of electronic health records and practice management software,
- Microsoft Office suite, e-mail and other computer and internet applications
- Minimum typing speed of 55+ wpm with accuracy
- Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously with excellent attention to detail
- Understanding of scheduling efficiency and patient flow
- Demonstrated proactive, analytical, critical thinking approach to problem solving. Applies analytical reasoning, reflection and rational problem-solving skills using verifiable information and good clinical judgment to identify alternative solutions to clinical problems.
- Ability to think independently and creatively. Fosters and uses innovative thinking to identify alternative solutions.
- A “can-do” attitude, effective team-player, adaptable to various competing demands. Practices health care team building and leadership skills to facilitate effective team functioning and clinic operations. - Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
General Patient Care
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments while adhering to sterile techniques
- Review and provide patient education on preparation, procedure, off-site labs/tests, post- procedure care, etc
- As directed by our providers, room and prepare patients and assist providers in various areas of the practice on procedures, treatments and other duties. Examples include, but are not limited to, surgical photographs, phototherapy, blue light, injections, suture removals, Koh preps, patch testing, biopsies (punch, DIF, shave), excisions, electrodessication, curettage, I&D, Mohs micrographic skin cancer surgery, post-op wound care, etc.
- Observe, record and report patient condition and reaction to drugs and treatments
- Labs/tests: collect specimen; label and complete lab requisitions; review charts in advance of scheduled appointments to ensure lab and other test results have been received; call testing facility if results have not been received and directs results to providers for review
- Ensure that all documentation is accurate, clear and complete; adheres to all documentation protocols including, but not limited to, maintenance of logs relating to biopsies, laboratory test/specimen, medical/cosmetic inventory and melanoma registry
- Implement clinical protocols and patient care and triage standards approved by our providers, coordinating clinical personnel and facilitating all paperwork and related tasks
- Triage and prioritize incoming telephone calls using clinical assessment skills and clinical service standards
- Communicate and collaborate with other clinical and administrative staff and third parties such as insurance plans, pharmacies and other facilities to coordinate patient care, accurately and in a timely manner according to approved protocols
- Identify any recurrent gaps between patient expectations and actual services provided and provide recommendations to providers
- Generally, demonstrates current knowledge and skill in nursing practice to ensure safe and effective care of patients
Clinical Operations
- Perform clerical, laboratory and other duties as requested by our providers
- Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment, including sterilization
- Serve as a resource for staff and physicians for daily problem solving and decision making
- Assess, evaluate and provide recommendations to management in developing and implementing policies and procedures that may improve the patient experience/care, clinical procedures, practice flow, provider efficiency and productivity
- Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures in the clinical area, according to state and federal law

- Attend continuing education programs as required to maintain licensure; demonstrate commitment to continuous learning and ability to identify own learning needs
- Maintain knowledge and skills relevant to all areas of the clinical practice
- As directed by our providers, oversee and/or teach others the specialized knowledge and skills necessary to perform clinical techniques and routines within the scope of the employee’s skill set and licensure
- Maintain detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions
- Attend annual CPR, OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA and other scheduled training programs
- Maintain patient confidentiality; comply with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
- Attend all mandatory meetings
- Perform all other tasks and projects as assigned by the providers

This job has some supervisory responsibilities.
Typical Physical Demands
Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. Normal visual acuity and hearing are required. Employee will work under stressful conditions and may work irregular hours from time to time. Employee will be exposed to bodily fluids on a regular basis.
Typical Working Conditions
Employee will have frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
