JOB SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Supervisor within the Behavioral Health Department, Substance Use the CASAC Counselor provides substance abuse counseling services to clients in our Outpatient clinic. The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for conducting intakes and for providing comprehensive support to individuals with chemical dependency and mental health issues in a holistic manner. This position will provide services in the clinic or on our mobile unit.
The Outpatient Clinic is open from 8AM- 8PM, and scheduling will be based on program needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITES
- Provide direct substance use disorder treatment for individuals with substance use disorder(s) or individuals experiencing homelessness and co-occurring mental health/ Substance Use Disorder(s)
- Conducting an initial assessment with each participating consumer to assess his/her current and past substance use
- Conduct reassessments as needed as per program protocol.
- Health promotion, health education, Psychoeducation, and risk reduction therapy/counseling.
- Navigate the client’s psychosocial system to assist in advocating for accessing resources necessary to treat mental health and substance use disorders.
- Administer individual substance use counseling, psychotherapy, and/or wellness counseling as appropriate.
- Able to Facilitate/co-facilitate groups related to substance use, Psychoeducation and Counseling.
- Conduct in-person follow-ups with clients having difficulty maintaining adherence to program and conduct outreach to reengage clients in services as appropriate.
- Utilize evidence-based interventions to program participants.
- Able to coordinate treatment planning and provide clinical input in clients care team as appropriate.
- Document all encounters in the appropriate databases.
- Adhere to workplace policies and procedures, including confidentiality, documentation, channels of communication, workplace culture, dress code, and conflict resolution.
- Conduct field work to other provider settings as needed to fulfill plan of care. · Participate in regular case conferences.
- Understands and is sensitive to chronic medical conditions, including HIV, mental health and substance use, diabetes, asthma, hypertension, heart disease and hepatitis diseases.
- Assist with crisis intervention as needed.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement planning project and activities.
- Performs other duties as need based on program needs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- MINIMUM: One (1) year experience/training in integrated mental health and substance abuse assessment/treatment, Motivational Interviewing techniques.
- Ability to maintain and accurately keep documentation.
- Knowledge of Trauma- Informed Care to individuals experiencing homelessness and/or substance use disorders.
- Knowledge of measurable interventions and outcome for clients experiencing homelessness and/or substance use disorder(s)
- Flexibility a must.
- Understanding and utilization of non-judgmental harm reduction modalities.
- Flexibility a must.
- Up to 50% of traveling required.
EDUCATION :
- MINIMUM: High School diploma or equivalent with a valid CASAC
For licensure applicants:
- MINIMUM: Master's Degree in social work or related field With valid current license and One (1) year of experience with target population.
WORK EXPERIENCES:
- One (1) year experience working with the homeless and/or substance use population.
- One (1) year experience working with the homeless and/or substance use population.
- One (1) year experience working with dual-diagnosis participants.
- One (1) year experience with clinical documentation
- One (1) year experience with intake/assessments.
LICENSURE: LMSW/LCSW/LMHC/LCAT (preferred)
