Job Purpose:
At Josephinum Academy of the Sacred Heart, we measure success one student at a time, and we seek to provide an education that meets the needs of the whole child. Our teachers, who are directly accountable to the principal, are responsible for delivering core content and ensuring alignment with curricula best practices. They will have the opportunity to teach across the spectrum of their expertise and be supported in creating differentiated learning experiences while participating in departmental planning and professional development opportunities.
This position focuses on Math curriculum. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching high school and advanced placement (AP) level math related courses which may or may not include variations of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, and statistics.
Job Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development, Delivery and Management
- Develop and implement daily lesson plans for students.
- Assist in the development of curriculum standards and mapping across the school.
- Develop common assessments, both formative and summative, that measure progress toward academic standards.
- Incorporate a variety of instructional strategies aimed at keeping classes focused from bell to bell and infusing a lasting desire to learn.
- Integrate technology effectively into the curriculum.
- Actively pursue professional development opportunities.
- Be open to constructive feedback on ways in which you can improve your classroom and curriculum.
Classroom Management
- Ensure that students master grade-level standards.
- Maintain and communicate high academic and personal expectations for all students.
- Engage in effective and consistent classroom management for students and fellow faculty members by demonstrating respect for and adherence to learning, understanding, and implementing school-wide policies and classroom standards as established by leadership, the principal, Dean of Students, and/or Dean of Curriculum & Instruction.
Community Engagement
- Provide constructive feedback to your peers and support them in their teaching efforts.
- Engage your student’s families frequently to celebrate the successes and communicate the challenges.
- Participate in school activities including, but not limited to, faculty and department meetings, in-service programs, parent-teacher conferences, and other extra-curricular activities, as requested or approved.
- Be a flexible and cooperative member of the faculty and Josephinum community who is willing to collaborate on departmental and school goals.
- Be an active member of the Josephinum faculty and community by participating in extra-curricular activities to support the principal, co-workers, and/or students such as:
- serving on committees,
- advising clubs,
- attending school related events,
- and participating in school related activities that assist in building community and or knowledge.
Other duties as assigned as it pertains to the role.
Education/Skills/Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to develop a rapport with students and families and deliver standard based, culturally relevant curriculum.
- Commitment to the school’s mission
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to apply principles and practices of sound management and supervisory methods.
- Competence in a variety of computer applications, including Powerschool, word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in either a school, non-profit, or for-profit organization, with experience and interest in:
- Teaching high school subjects
- Classroom management
- Curriculum development and implementation
- Program development and management
- Bi-lingual
- LBS1 certified.
- ESL certified.
