Perform tasks involving physical labor at concrete construction projects such as clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, assist setting braces and concrete forms, erect scaffolding, position and secure steel bars or mesh, clean up rubble, debris, and tear out concrete, load and unload trucks and haul and hoist materials. May operate a variety of hand and power tools and small equipment. Assist and take instructions from craft workers.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Dig ditches and level earth to grade specifications using pick and shovel. Ensure grading of dirt and concrete efficiently and accurately.
- Assist in building and positioning forms for pouring concrete and dismantles and cleans (as necessary) forms after use.
- Assist in erecting and disassembling scaffolding, shoring, braces, and other temporary structures.
- Mixes concrete and mortar.
- Grinds, scrapes, sand surfaces and apply sealer as needed.
- Cut and drill holes in timber/lumber to specified dimensions per finisher instruction.
- Assists in constructing forms; assist in raising to required elevation
- Install and tie steel bars or wire mesh.
- Use of hand tools to smooth concrete edges per finisher direction.
- Rake and level cement.
- Align straighten, plumb, and square form for installation.
- Operate power and hand tools and small equipment.
- Install handrails and guard rails as directed.
- Inspect and replace rebar caps on worksite as needed to ensure all rebar is guarded with OSHA approved covers.
- Hold plumb bobs, sighting rods, and other equipment to aid in establishing reference points and lines.
- Load and unload trucks and haul and hoist materials.
- Signals equipment operators to facilitate adjustment, alignment and movement of machinery, equipment, and materials.
- Cleans and organizes the construction sites, trucks, and all other areas to ensure free from hazards.
- Use power sprayer or washer as needed.
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to perform simple math and understand measuring tools.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram from. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Knowledge of proper use of equipment materials and supplies used in concrete construction work.
- Ability to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, hear, taste, smell regularly. Climb balance frequently and sit occasionally. Must be able to lift or carry 50 lbs. or more.
- Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with consistency and dependability.
- Ability to work in outside conditions that include but not limited to heat, cold, inclement weather, humidity, and exposure to dust and concrete
