GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Looking for a motivated individual to conduct laboratory research in endocrinology and biochemistry, and to perform assays in an academic research laboratory. An important component of the job is to perform assays of hormones, growth factors, peptides, and other analytes, using HPLC and LC-MS/MS. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the PI and the Lab Manager and will assist in performing assays for hormones, growth factors, and other analytes, conducting lab experiments, and generating manuscripts. Some of the assays require the application of LC-MS/MS.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform assays of various analytes, including sex hormones and circulating proteins/ peptides. Some of the assays require the application of HPLC or LC-MS/MS.
2. Perform lab experiments
3. Perform general lab maintenance, oversee lab inventory and chemical/reagent suppliers ensure availability of adequate supplies to laboratory operation.
4. Generate assay reports, and manage specimen storage and records
5. Coordinate lab activities, including documentation of laboratory records, quality assurance
6. All other duties, related to ongoing research, as assigned
BS OR BA
A masters' degree in clinical chemistry, biological sciences or chemistry related fields is preferred.
A BS degree with relevant experience in performing assays using LC-MS/MS would also be acceptable.
Requires working experience in laboratory research in an academic research laboratory or industry in with knowledge and skills in performing assays
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Broad knowledge of laboratory techniques and assays
- Knowledge and experience in performing analytical assays; some HPLC and LC/MS working experience is desirable.
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Quick learning, logically thinking, effectively structuring tasks and priorities.
- Ability to identify potential problems to the research experiment and to conduct general instrumentation and automation troubleshooting.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in lab operations.
- Commitment and willingness to work flexible hours occasionally
- Strong interpersonal skills and good at team work.
- Highly organized, effectively structuring multitasked work on high volume of assays, and priorities
Good oral and written communication skills, logically thinking and presenting ideas
