DESCRIPTION (DEFINITION & DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS):
Cook a variety of main dishes, breads, and desserts; assist with food serving and assist in the overall operation and maintenance of a school cafeteria.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (EXAMPLE OF DUTIES):
- Plan, prepare and cook foods and breads served in the cafeteria program.
- Set up serving area, serve food for breakfasts, lunches, and ala carte program and clean up after serving.
- Assist in cleaning and storing cafeteria equipment and food supplies.
- Perform cashiering and report preparations as assigned.
- Order, receive and store food and supplies.
- Responsible for or assist in snack bar when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):
Knowledge of:
- Preparation of food in large quantities.
- Precautions for sanitation and safety around food items and kitchen utensils and equipment.
- Operation of cash register and handling money.
Ability to:
- Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned performance responsibilities, which are essential functions of this job description, are the following essential physical requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Shoulder, arm, wrist, and finger dexterity sufficient for distribution of food items.
- Ability to see for the purposes of reading recipes, cashier tapes, and food item reports.
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
- Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation.
- Ability to bend, twist, stoop, and reach.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and do repetitive lifting of 25 pounds.
- Ability to push a food cart with 75-100 pounds.
Training and Experience:
- Follow written and oral directions.
- Handling money including making correct change and operating a cash register.
- One year experience in food occupations preferred.

Pay: $17.42 - $22.16 per hour
