Summary
This position involves handling and processing patient specimens in a laboratory setting, focusing on dermatology and pathology. It requires careful following of laboratory protocols, gross examination of specimens, and quality control. This job is a part-time role, with midday shifts from Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m (hours may vary during this time period, but a minimum of four hours/day is required).
Primary Responsibilities Include, but are not Exclusive of:
- Specimen Handling and Accessioning
- Receiving Specimens: Properly intake patient specimens into the laboratory system.
- Accessioning: Follow specific guidelines to label and identify specimens accurately.
- Printing Cassettes and Slides: Use the correct cassettes and slides for each case to ensure proper processing.
- Quality Control and Safety
- Equipment Checks: Perform quality control procedures on the tissue processor, fume hood, and other lab equipment as required.
- Lab Safety: Follow safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean workspace.
- Hazardous Waste Disposal: Correctly dispose of hazardous materials according to safety regulations.
- Inventory and Preparation
- Supply Maintenance: Keep track of and manage inventory for grossing supplies.
- Cassette Preparation: Preprint cassettes as needed to ensure readiness for specimen processing.
- Additional Duties
- Miscellaneous Tasks: Perform other tasks and duties as they arise to support laboratory operations.
