Description
We are seeking a dynamic Director of Programs to join our team. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role is vital in ensuring the health and safety of all people and animals on the property, compliance with laws, and efficient management of our Adoption, Foster, and Volunteer Programs.
The Director of Programs will oversee daily operations, manage costs, drive revenue, and cultivate an inclusive and inspiring environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Kennel Management:
- Supervise Assistant Kennel Managers and Attendants.
- Oversee daily dog care, enrichment, and veterinary care.
2. Adoption Program:
- Achieve 51 adoptions per month.
- Tailor adoptions to meet specific dog needs.
- Review and approve adoption applications, conduct appointments, and manage communications.
3. Foster Program:
- Maintain 25-35 dogs in foster care.
- Expand foster pool and conduct training.
- Review and approve foster applications, handle emergencies, and manage veterinary appointments.
4. Volunteer Program:
- Expand and manage volunteer base.
- Conduct volunteer orientations and enforce timekeeping and code of conduct.
5. Shelter Population Management:
- Manage end-to-end dog population processes.
- Maintain ShelterLuv database and ensure timely medical intakes.
6. Veterinary Care:
- Ensure completion and understanding of treatment plans.
7. Financial Management:
- Aggressively manage expenses and ensure prudent use of resources.
8. Facilities Management:
- Ensure safe property management and compliance with safety requirements.
9. Supply Procurement:
- Manage procurement and secure storage of donations.
10.Staffing and HR:
- Hire, promote, and manage staff.
- Ensure a safe and inclusive work environment.
Required Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Proven experience in animal shelter management.
- Experience working with animals of all temperaments and comfortable with their handling.
- Understanding of cleaning protocols related to animals.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple programs and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Financial acumen and resource management expertise.
- Passion for animal welfare and community engagement.
Work Environment
- Primarily on-site at the farm setting with exposure to various weather conditions and potential exposure to zoonotic diseases.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands.
- May be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent exposure to animals and animal waste.
Travel Required
- Minimal travel required, primarily local.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
- 40 hours per week
- Wednesday - Sunday from 10am-6pm, schedule could change slightly depending
- on the needs of the Rescue and coverage.
