McLean Hospital’s Center for Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Research is seeking a dedicated Research Assistant (RA). Our center is committed to advancing the understanding and treatment of depression, anxiety, and related conditions (http://cdasr.mclean.harvard.edu). This position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with multimodal research methods, including electroencephalogram (EEG) using conventional and dry EEG system, clinical interviewing, and other advanced techniques. Our team employs brain imaging, electrophysiological recordings, behavioral experiments, and computational models to investigate learning and memory in both healthy individuals and adults with depression.
Under the supervision of Drs. Mohammad Sendi and Arkadiy Maksimovskiy, and following established policies and procedures, the RA will contribute to clinical research studies by providing valuable support and assistance.
1. Initiating and maintaining contact with study participants. Responsible for screening applicants, ensuring they meet eligibility criteria, and making independent judgments regarding their suitability for participation. Coordinates study visits. Conducts behavioral, electroencephalography (EEG), clinical survey, use audio and visual recording equipment.
2. Working in concert with principal investigators and other staff, develops and implements patient recruitment strategies.
3. Develops, organizes, and/or maintains the study database. Responsible for data validation and quality control, as well as preliminary statistical analyses.
4. In conjunction with Drs. Mohammad Sendi and Arkadiy Maksimovskiy, develops and implements new research protocols.
5. Performs literature searches.
6. Assists Drs. Mohammad Sendi and Arkadiy Maksimovskiy with preparations for presentations and written articles.
7. Assists with monitoring the laboratory budget, including ordering equipment.
8. Maintains inventory and orders supplies when necessary.
9. Assists Drs. Mohammad Sendi and Arkadiy Maksimovskiy, and laboratory staff with IRB submission and compliance with regulatory agencies.
10. Assists Drs. Mohammad Sendi and Arkadiy Maksimovskiy with scheduling.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
Conduct experimental sessions as well as train and oversee new staff or more entry level staff. May serve as a team leader or in a supervisory capacity in a smaller area.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with study participants.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of clinical research protocols.
- Knowledge of computer programs, databases, etc.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
- Careful attention to detail.
- Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subjects’ rights and individual needs.
BS or BA in Psychology, Neuroscience or related fields. At least 1 year of relevant work experience preferred.
