WAA, a 501(c)3 nonprofit agency, is Philadelphia's leading domestic violence advocate and service provider and among the largest domestic violence agencies in the country. The mission of WAA is to provide quality, compassionate and non-judgmental services in a manner that fosters self-respect and independence in persons experiencing intimate partner violence through advocacy and community education. With over 170 staff, WAA serves (2-100 bed safe havens and 15 transitional housing apartments), legal services, hotline counseling, aftercare community-based services, prevention & education, and advocacy.

Responsibilities:
The Housekeeper is responsible for the overall cleanliness for the Emergency Shelter, including resident rooms and administrative offices/spaces. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Cleaning facilities according to established Agency procedures, routines and schedules. Emptying trash, dusting, spot cleaning, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, dry and wet mopping, sanitizing community areas, giving bedrooms complete cleaning after residents leave and before new residents move in. Follow all safety guidelines for handling and use of cleaning chemicals. Assist in other housekeeping or other related tasks or projects as assigned. All responsibilities are implemented according to our mission and values and according to Agency Standards, including a trauma informed practice.
Qualifications:
1. A High School Diploma or the equivalent is required.
2. Previous experience in janitorial cleaning is required, residential cleaning experience is strongly preferred.
3. The ability to read, understand and communicate in English is required.
4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population is required; experience working in an urban area a plus..
5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member is required.
6. Frequent lifting is required, typically not more than 25 lbs.
7. The ability to bend, stop, stand on a regular basis and general physical exertion is required.
8. Bilingualism is strongly preferred.
9. Will be required to attend JARS Domestic Violence Advocate Training, post hire (w/pay).
10. Satisfactory clearances - Child Abuse, Criminal and FBI before hire and on-going employment (cost covered by employer)
Schedule: PT benefit eligible, 33 hours/week Wednesday-Sunday 1:00pm-7:30pm
Hourly Rate: $16.47/hr with Generous and comprehensive benefits package including Medical/Vision/Dental benefits, paid time off, annual increases each July, and retention recognition increases for every 2 years of service & more.
