Job purpose
Established School-based, Day Treatment program is seeking a licensed or permit-eligible art therapist (music or drama therapist would also be considered) with experience working with school-age children/adolescents with a range of developmental delays, social/emotional behaviors, and mental health issues. Therapist must lead groups daily, document client’s clinical progress, and collaborate with treatment team. Knowledge of development, mental health issues, and various psychiatric disorders is necessary for establishing creative arts therapy goals.
Experience in documentation regulations and standards for educational, clinical, and developmental disability settings. Has the ability to provide clinical and task supervision to creative arts professionals and interns across the agency.
Duties and responsibilities
- Leading weekly therapeutic art groups with classrooms.
- Developing directives and facilitating programming for groups.
- Contributing to daily clinical charting for all art therapy group sessions.
- Collaborating with Clinical Team members and Direct Support Professionals.
- Maintaining art supplies and organization of art studio.
- Displaying client’s artwork in program setting.
- Assisting in coordinating and modeling for Art Therapy interns (as needed).
Secondary Responsibilities
- Carrying a caseload of individual children for 1x1 art therapy.
- Attending weekly Treatment Team and Supervisor’s Meetings.
- Presenting relevant topics in Clinical Supervisor’s meeting each year.
Qualifications
- Must be NYS Creative Arts Therapy Licensed or eligible for NYS Creative Arts Therapy permit.
- Positive approach to job requirements and strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with children and adolescents with disabilities and social-emotional challenges with knowledge of behavioral interventions and a trauma-informed approach.
- Knowledge of the use of various art materials and modalities to use in school-age and adolescent setting.
- Excellent therapeutic boundaries and ability to set positive limits in various work environments.
- Basic computer skills.
