Waveny LifeCare Network is currently looking to hire a Registered Nurse (RN) for our skilled nursing facility. This is a full-time, benefit eligible position. This position provides professional, quality resident care in an environment which is safe, pleasant and therapeutic. The role also practices nursing care based on sound medical knowledge and nursing skills. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Provides quality resident care providing assessment, formulating, implementing and evaluating resident care plans.
- Implements resident care according to the medical/nursing care plans assuring sound, accurate and comprehensive care is delivered to each resident
- Gives medications as ordered by the physician in accordance with Waveny LifeCare Network policy assuring residents receive the correct medications and doses while understanding all aspects of medications
- Administers or assists with treatments as ordered or performed by the physician
- Has knowledge of residents’ conditions at all times reporting changes to the appropriate discipline recognizing all physical and psychological conditions.
- Acts as a charge nurse as assigned assuming 8-hour responsibility to recognize and meet residents’ medical/nursing care needs.
- Acts as liaison between resident, family and physician providing continuity of care recognizing the family’s understanding of physician’s orders.
- Performs direct resident care as assigned
- Assures resident education of care plans having residents understand good health habits, special procedures, understanding of diagnosis, medications and discharge planning, if applicable.
- Maintains open communications with members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Documents on charts accurately, objectively and timely, reflecting problems, approaches, measurable goals and time frames of resident care.
- Communicates appropriate information (personnel problems and residents” conditions) to Nurse Supervisor and Nurse Manager assuring the meeting of physical, social, psychological and spiritual needs of the resident.
- Approaches interpersonal relationships in a manner which avoids antagonism and reduces conflict.
- Assures and maintains a safe and infection free resident environment.
- Recognizes safety hazards and acts upon them appropriately.
- Assures equipment is in good working order and reports any unsafe equipment to Environmental Services immediately.
- Remains knowledgeable in emergency situations and uses equipment, documents and communicates appropriately.
- Recognizes potential infection control problem areas and maintains accountability for adherence to infection control procedures.
- Exercises good judgment in using proper body mechanics to prevent injury to self and others.
- Acts as a role model and assumes a leadership role as designated. Sets an example by displaying positive qualities and attitudes
- Provides direction and support to CNAs and other licensed personnel in the implementation of resident care
- Institutes and maintains a cooperative team effort among staff members
- Assists in the training and teaching of CNAs’ required skills
- Reorganizes assignments, as needed, to deal with unexpected changes without comprising resident care
- Continually upgrades and makes changes in job area to assure professional growth and development and that the department meets the needs of the changing market/field.
- Supports, promotes, and projects guest relations and positive images to all visitors, residents, and other Waveny LifeCare Network personnel
Qualification for this role:
Requires a registered nurse licensed in the State of Connecticut. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all levels of people diplomatically and tactfully. Requires the ability to be sensitive to the aging population recognizing geriatric needs. Experience in long-term care required. Licensed staff must have the ability to perform lifting and other strenuous duties.
