Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited professional school of Nursing. Must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Must maintain and submit the current license/certificate necessary to perform the current position.
Requirements:
- Experience in working with the chemically dependent patient is preferable
- Ability to relate well with others and demonstrate professional interpersonal skills
- CPR certification
- Must have a sincere desire to be responsible for performing a high degree of professionalism in working with the addicted patient/dually diagnosed
- TB screening
- Must have the ability to use technology
- Help with orientation of new staff
- Keep medication log in compliance
Responsibilities:
- Compliance with Federal Regulations, 42 CFR Part 2, Confidentiality of Alcohol, Substance Abuse Policy and HIPAA Regulations
- Conduct controlled substance count and syringe count at the change of every shift (with one on-coming and one off-going nurse) and sign the controlled substance register
- Take change of shift report
- Monitor vital signs per protocol and as needed
- Administer routine and PRN medications according to the nursing standards of care, as ordered, and as needed
- Document pertinent information according to the established alcohol/drug protocols; Monitor and provide emergency medical care and daily medical treatments to medically compromised patients
- Attend daily multi-disciplinary team meetings to assist in coordinating aftercare planning
- Create a "sick list" for the MD/NP as needs arise
- Organize all orders to be signed by the MD/NP, utilize "read back" policy
- Review charts for accuracy and make changes accordingly
- Fax medication orders to local pharmacies
- Conduct nursing assessment/physical exams on all patients admitted to MTCCG and initiate and revise treatment plan
- Co-sign treatment plans that are initiated by an LPN
- Assist in orientation of new nursing personnel
- Participate in outside educational programs in an effort to enhance both professional and personal growth
- Attend and participate in required in-service programs and trainings
- Attend monthly Nurses' meetings
- Responsible for decisions and actions relative to quality of care for all patients; Attend mandatory trainings
- Responsible for continued education in the field of substance abuse and related courses
- Responsible for contacting the insurance company for authorization, as needed
- Maintain infection control log
- Utilize universal precautions at all times
- Demonstrate behaviors that recognize the rights of patients as defined by the patient rights
- Observe for, document, and refer for treatment of pain and other medical conditions
- Monitor and oversee the UA's shift responsibilities and report to the Clinical Director any issues or concerns
