Position Summary
To assist Alexander JFS Career & Employment Center clients with career transitions and developing long-term career goals. Determine eligibility for the Career & Employment Center programs and agency resources and place the client in the appropriate program. The Program Specialist will ensure professional programming and market the program to potential clients, community agencies, organizations, and educational institutions.

Eligibility Duties
- Record, organize, and manage client and agency information to ensure accurate and timely documentation.
- Compile, record, and evaluate personal and financial data to verify completeness and accuracy, and to determine eligibility and fee status.
- Monitor clients’ ongoing career and financial status.
- Keep records of assigned cases and prepare reports.
- Accurately assess clients’ interests, aptitude, skills, and barriers to employment.
- Assist clients in selection and enrollment in education and training programs; provide follow-up support to ensure retention and successful completion.
- Connect clients with internal and external community resources.
- Assist in revenue growth through new contracts, assisting with grant writing and reporting and supporting efforts to secure philanthropic funding.
- Other assignments as needed or assigned by management.
Career Coaching
- Assist clients in developing an effective career search strategy based on their interests, education, and experience.
- Coach clients develop career search materials including resumes, cover letters, thank you notes, answers to interview questions, mock interviews, disclosure, accommodations, and follow-up with employers.
- Advise clients about work environments including virtual, remote, and on-site environments.
- Facilitate networking opportunities for business introductions between clients and employers.
- Analyze current employment market trends and suggest appropriate changes to Alexander JFS Career and Employment programs.
- Research new business relationships with new and existing employers.
- Assist with employment workshops for employers and clients.
Social Media
- Create effective marketing strategies and materials for potential employers and clients via the Alexander JFS website, flyers, or merchandising products.
- Maintain Career and Employment Center social media accounts by collaborating with the agency’s Development Department and the CEC Career Coach – Business Developer.
Skills and Qualities
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, social media, and internet research.
- Ability to learn database system.
- Ability to use approved testing and assessment instruments appropriately under supervision.
- Ability to make formal and informal presentations.
- Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies.
- Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task.
- Strong relational and networking interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Adept problem-solving skills, ability to think creatively, and to implement innovative ideas.
- Current knowledge of general principles and methods of job search including resume writing, networking, and interviewing skills.
- Ability to always maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required in business, human resources, marketing, psychology, career development, social work, or vocational rehabilitation.
- Minimum 1 years of work experience in an office environment completing administrative tasks.
- Ability to complete career specialist certifications within one year of employment.
Working conditions
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
- Ability to visit employers’ work sites.
Physical requirements
This job is mostly an office job. It requires the ability to travel within the Greater Houston area to meet with employers. When job coaching, the job may require standing, walking, bending, stooping, or other physical activity for an extended period.
