POSITION TITLE: Preschool Instructor Assistant
CLASSIFICATION: Full Time
NORMAL WORKING HOURS: Mon-Fri 8:15 am – 2:45 pm (Follow 193 day school calendar plus a supplemental July summer session up to a maximum of 16 days)

PROBATIONARY PERIOD: 300 days, not to exceed 1 calendar year
HIRING RANGE: $14.71-$17.65/Hr.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Assist preschool teacher to assure students’ instructional, personal care, health & safety needs are met. To work with small groups and/or individual students as designed and directed by the teacher and to ask questions of teacher when expectations are unclear. Help students with enrichment activities. Reinforce instruction materials introduced by the teacher. Maintain a positive learning environment. Offer help when students ask, or their behavior suggests they need assistance. Help solve student concerns as discreetly and as least intrusively as possible. Support an inclusive educational environment. Helps students with disabilities participate as fully as possible in appropriate peer group activities. Assist with student mobility needs. Help students use assistive technology, augmentative and/or adaptive devices. Follow Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) as prescribed, including personal support service needs such as medical, nutrition, health, safety, and hygiene (e.g., toileting, catheterization, etc.), medication administration and any other related healthcare tasks as trained by a licensed health care professional. Assist students to participate as fully as possible in recreational activities. Provide first aid/CPR when necessary. Monitor ill students until a parent/guardian arrives. Respect student and family personal privacy. Maintain confidentiality of privileged and protected information. Assure students are always supervised. Observe student behavior and immediately report to the teacher anything that may indicate a bigger problem (e.g., illness, pain, anxiety, teasing, bullying, distress, abuse, neglect, etc.). Exemplify high standards of good character, conduct, calm, caring, problem-solving, positive, and encouraging attitude. Primarily assist the preschool teacher with ODE required student assessments, data collection, providing evidence-based progress reporting/portfolios. Primarily assist the preschool teacher with planning and arranging community-based activities and field trip experiences. Responsible for the oversight and monitoring of students and classroom staff at any time the preschool teacher is intermittently away from the classroom. Responsible for the routine organizing, cleaning, and sanitizing of preschool furniture, equipment, supplies, and other materials throughout the day.
NATURE OF WORK: Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality. Promote the proper use and care of school property. Report alleged, suspected, or known occurrences of child abuse and neglect as required by law. Document and report unusual incidents in accordance with board policy and procedure. Participate in parent conferences, open houses, and other preschool related activities. Perform documentation and paperwork support related to classroom activities. Prepare and distribute teaching materials as directed. Wear appropriate work attire and maintain a neat, professional appearance conducive to a safe learning environment, as well as student/family respect and confidence. Demonstrate professionalism and contribute to a positive, enriching educational environment. Perform assigned classroom duties efficiently with limited supervision and respect for the teacher/supervisor who assigned it. React flexibly and productively to interruptions in routine and changing conditions. Communicate effectively to include, but not limited to, verbal, nonverbal, listening, and writing skills. Complete written documentation accurately. Correctly enter, track, and report data as directed by the teacher.
Attend conferences, workshops, seminars, and meetings to enhance professional growth as permitted and/or requested by the administration. Participate in staff meetings and county board committees as directed. Exemplify program philosophy, mission & vision to the public in a positive manner. Shall maintain professional ethics in keeping with the confidentiality of information and material with which she/he will come in contact. As necessary, employee shall comply with Safety Rules established for the purpose of fulfilling compliance with Ohio Employment Risk Reduction Standards, Rules, or Orders through the utilization of protective equipment and decontamination techniques. Shall perform delegated nursing tasks as assigned and supervised by the WyCBDD program registered nurse.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Basic office equipment including but not limited to: telephone, personal computer, printing/scanning devices, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be physically capable to lift, carry and move individuals, including children, adolescents, and adults in a safe manner according to in-service training. Working conditions may exist that are not such as normally exist in the occupation of the public employee. These conditions may include exposure to bloodbourne pathogens, communicable disease, potentially infectious materials and/or aggressive behavior.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS: Communication skills, including problem solving and conflict resolution skills, Ability to handle sensitive situations. Ability to develop and maintain rapport with individuals receiving services, family members, SSAs, community service providers and others. Must be proficient with existing technology and possess the capacity to quickly adapt to new and emerging technology. Ability to use Microsoft Office and agency specific software programs.
