Overview:
Big Dot of Happiness LLC is seeking a dedicated and experienced Financial Controller to join our dynamic team. As a Financial Controller, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial activities of the company and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of a rapidly expanding party supply business that specializes in creating memorable moments for our customers.
The Controller will sit on the Executive Leadership Team and actively partner with all internal functional teams, as well as external service providers, to prepare accurate and timely financial reporting. This responsibility will require control of financial activity, service-oriented support, management of risks and opportunities, and generation and maintenance of business data analytics and metrics. In addition, The Controller will provide leadership and oversight of the Human Resources function including benefits administration, payroll, recruiting, and HR system (Paylocity).
Duties:
- Maintain control of cash receiving and disbursement processes. Monitor cash and cash flow needs through 13 weeks forecast to determine cash resources necessary to fund the company’s strategies.
- Maintain control of account reconciliations, general ledger and supplemental systems, close process, and reporting formats.
- Maintain timely and accurate financial reporting to all business stakeholders.
- Maintain cash forecast to support the business and for communication to all business stakeholders.
- Maintain control of reporting and analysis of inventory.
- Prepare deliverables and drive completion of financial statement audits.
- Prepare and review monthly results and ad hoc analysis to support organization objectives.
- Prepare detailed analyses and insight to support organization objectives.
- Develop financial presentation packages for review with business stakeholders on a periodic basis.
- Develop working capital targets for the business units and coordinate with various business functions on operating plans and initiatives to ensure successful achievement of targets.
- Forecast and monitor cash and cash flow to determine that cash resources are adequate to fund the Company’s short-and long-term strategies.
- Work with third parties including, but not limited to, Amazon, Shopify and vendors who supply the Company’s products to ensure a timely and efficient flow of operational and financial data from them to the Company.
- Evaluate system capabilities and needs and prepare for potential system implementation and upgrades.
- Support preparation of sales tax, property tax, use tax, and income tax filings.
- Ensures business activities and processes comply with applicable laws and/or US GAAP.
- Assists in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
- Provide periodic presentations and briefings to the Board of Directors and shareholders.
- Work with the CEO and other executive team members to create and implement strategic financial and operating plans.
- Recommends best practices based upon analytical review of factual data.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including oversight of HR function and benefits administration.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field from an accredited college or university; Graduate degree preferred, but not required.
- 8+ years’ experience in finance or accounting related fields; leadership experience a plus.
- Prior experience in a Controller role preferable.
- CPA license is preferable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, and the ability to work in team environment.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical skills.
- Ability to work with other executives, managers, and team members in developing operating plans and maintaining regular financial reports; ability to modify or create reporting processes to ensure efficient operations and timely reporting.
- Preference for experience with private equity owned companies.
- Experience performing accounting and analytic tasks for E-Commerce marketplaces such as Amazon, Target, Walmart, and Shopify.
- E-Commerce and inventory management experience is preferable.
- Experience in a high transaction, large SKU count volume environment.
- Independent, self-starter, highly motivated.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Access).
- Proficiency in QuickBooks.
- Preferred experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite or Microsoft Dynamics.
- General knowledge of HR practices and employee benefits administration highly desired.
