Regular Education Teachers and/or Special Education Teachers
Sequoyah Adolescent Treatment Center (SATC) is immediately hiring for full-time (7.5 hours/day) regular education teachers and/or special education teachers. We are seeking dynamic educators with regular education and/or special education experience. These teachers will be responsible for teaching 7th through 12th grade students with a maximum class size of nine. Our school is year-round, however we offer 32 days paid non-teaching days with 11 paid federal/state holidays. Our school day is from 8am to 1:30pm, except on Wednesdays, when school operates from 8am to 12:00pm. The remainder of the workday is dedicated to planning time, meetings, and professional development.
All staff working at SATC are trained in CPI and trauma-informed care as part of the onboarding process. Classrooms are supported by educational assistants and milieu staff (psych techs) who assist with student supervision, breaks, and behavior management.
This school is located at Sequoyah Adolescent Treatment Center which is a facility within the New Mexico Department of Health. SATC is a secure facility which serves the needs of adolescent males ages 13-17 with a history of violence and aggression as well as mental health disorders.
Teacher responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver quality, standards-based instruction for students based on individual learning goals and course requirments
- Foster a collaborative environment that is conducive to learning and student growth
- Ensure a sustainable relationship/connection with students, school personnel, and members of the facility by communicating in a confidential, polite, and productive manner
- Maintain accurate records (grades, attendance, treatment team notes)
- Work collaboratively with staff in all departments to support student needs
- The special education teacher will be able to understand and administer the IEP process and required documentation
Requirements:
- Valid secondary teaching license from the state of New Mexico
- For special education teacher, valid special education license from the state of NM
- Successful completion of a background check
- Ability to create an effective working relationship with school and facility personnel
- Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects, and coordinate details with others
- Demonstration of effective classroom management techniques
- Prior teaching experience preferred
