Position Summary
Reporting to the Finance Manager - Costing & Operations, the cost accountant role is an active partner to our manufacturing teams & is responsible for capturing and sharing financial data clearly and accurately to support leadership decisions, month-end close, budget and forecast, and production variance analysis. The cost accountant partners with the various corporate departments and manufacturing teams to ensure that reported results are accurate and comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
Essential Functions
- Day-to-day partnering with operations teams, including occasional site visits, project support, development of metrics and ad hoc reporting.
- Develops systems and procedures for cost accounting functions.
- Communicates and supports execution of expense and inventory controls, policies and procedures.
- Analyzes and maintains manufacturing labor and overhead rates through variance reporting and in collaboration with operations management.
- Supply clear and precise commentary on key drivers & business trends to further financial knowledge across the organization.
- Support ongoing reviews of data accuracy in preparation for the accounting close.
- Prepares new product cost estimates.
- Supports Operations capital and expense budgeting and forecasting process.
- Reviews and submits capital projects for approval.
- Documents project details for In-Process Capital Projects to assist in asset setup and maintenance.
- Supports R&D tax credit, financial and tax audits.
- Determines and recommends solutions that contribute to efficiency, productivity and sustainability of the cost accounting function.
- Assists with various ad-hoc projects and analysis as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field OR 2+ years of cost accounting experience
- 2+ years of finance or business analysis experience
- Knowledge of GAAP and financial accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of controls, compliance, and risk management
- Advanced Microsoft Office and Excel
- Ability to generate bold, creative ideas to improve company performance
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, comfortable communicating with non- native English speakers
Preferred:
- 2+ years of cost accounting experience
- CMA or CPA designation
- Working experience with SAP
Schedule Requirements
This position is expected to work within core business hours.
Travel Requirements
This position is a hybrid role that offers a flexible schedule including being on-site in Eden Prairie, MN with the Accounting and Finance team.
Occasional plant site visits in Minnesota and Northern Iowa will require travel up to 3 days per month.
