SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the laboratory technologist performs various analytical procedures in the clinical laboratory, maintains instruments, calculates and analyzes data, tests, and maintains quality control. California license not required for this position.
FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Has knowledge of existing policy, both clinic and laboratory.
2. Collect and analyze specimens.
3. Perform all clinical laboratory tests done at KMC clinical laboratory in a timely manner.
4. Participates in proficiency testing with results consistent with professional standards.
5. Sets up cultures correctly, and in a timely manner.
6. Distribute laboratory test reports to clinic, or referral clinicians.
7. Prepare specimens for send out to reference laboratories.
8. Is aware of, and deals appropriately with patient confidentiality.
9. Responds to STATs in a timely manner.
10. Restocks reagents and supplies.
11. Notifies the supervisor when reagents or supplies are low.
12. Performs paperwork neatly, legibly, and accurately.
13. Follows quality control procedures.
14. Perform quality control and maintain quality control records.
15. File reports and keep monthly logs updated.
16. Perform preventative maintenance on analyzers and machinery.
17. Perform analyzer and equipment repair to the best of ability.
18. Actively pursues continuing education relevant to laboratory issues and regulations.
19. Responds to technical inquiries as they occur, refers difficult questions appropriately.
20. Assists in maintaining a clean, well organized work area.
21. Practices universal precautions, and works safely.
22. Performs other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor.
23. Arrives to work on time and is ready to work at the beginning of the shift.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Licensed as a Medical Technologist or equivalent, and a minimum of one year laboratory experience. California license not required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Medical Technologist License. California license not required.
- Current CPR Certificate or obtain within 30 days of employment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
