Laboratory Analytical Services Purpose: help our valued partners maintain reliable electrical systems by accurately handling and analyzing their insulating liquids safely, timely, and cost-effectively while maintaining a work environment that strives to be a Good Place.
Position Purpose: Support LAS operations and strategic initiatives through the timely, accurate, and effective maintenance (preventive and reactive), calibration, and troubleshooting of operation-critical instrumentation. To lead method development continuous improvement and departmental research and development initiatives to advance sustainability, maintainability, and technical acumen of LAS operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine Instrumentation maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with laboratory instruments.
- Repair and replace parts on instruments as needed.
- Ensure instruments are functioning properly and accurately to produce reliable test results.
- Create/maintain documentation for preventive and reactive maintenance activities.
- Source and stock replacement part inventories for critical instrumentation.
- Conducts and leads validation and calibration testing on laboratory equipment according to protocol or procedure.
- Reviews and approves vendor executed works on instrumentations including, but not limited to, calibration, maintenance, and repair.
- Oversee vendors during execution of work, ensure safety and compliance practices are followed.
- Immediately reports deviations and discrepancies in testing, compliance and safety practices, and documentation to Quality Department.
- Provide input during the review of procedures for calibration, preventative maintenance, and performance verification of equipment.
- Administer service contracts with vendors / 3rd parties associated with instruments.
- Source and stock replacement part inventories for critical instrumentation.
- Maintain and ensure ISO 17025 instrumentation compliance via QA, non-conformance reporting, root cause analysis, and reporting activities.
- Interacts effectively with laboratory, Quality Department, and other departments, as required.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree, Chemistry preferred, or the equivalent combination of experience.
- The qualified individual must have several years of laboratory instrument/equipment calibration and performance verification testing experience in a regulated environment.
- Experience with mechanical troubleshooting and equipment repair.
- Prior laboratory environment experience is a MUST.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of instrumentation including but not limited to Gas Chromatography (GC), Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP), Liquid Chromatography (HPLC/UPLC), Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Dielectric, Coulometric Titration, miscellaneous minor electronics, and ancillary equipment (autosamplers, chillers, etc.)
- Must be detail oriented, well organized with clear communication in speech and writing.
- Must have a customer focused attitude and able to work with urgency to meet the assigned timelines.
- Must have experience and skill at reviews for data accuracy and compliance of tests to specifications.
- Must have ability to interact and accurately communicate information with the appropriate team members, co-workers, and technicians.
- Must be self-motivated and driven to move the project to completion.
- Proficient with Microsoft office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- LIMS (Laboratory Information Managements Systems) experience a plus.
- Flexible scheduling (role may need to respond to issues on “off shift” or work longer than 8 hour shifts for achieve maximum instrumentation uptime).
Work Conditions:
The work for this position is conducted indoors, in a conventional office and laboratory environment, in an office or cubicle workstation, with low noise.
Physical Demands:
While working, the ability to:
- Perform work at workstation and/or workbench for extended periods of time, typically at least 8 hours a day, sometimes more or less if business needs require;
- Occasionally lift objects up to 50 lbs;
- Occasionally stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, and climb throughout the day.
