Personal Care Assistant/Certified Medication Technician (PCA)
Broad Creek Manor is looking for a weekend caregiver with the ability to work day and evening shift. Also the opportunity for part time coverage on all shifts. (Sign On Bonus available!)
Personal Care Assistants work with residents under the supervision of a Delegating Nurse (RN), Assisted
Living Manager and House Supervisor. Personal Care Assistants must have a current Certified Medication
Technician (CMT) license.
Personal Care Assistants assist residents with tasks such as personal care, bathing, dressing, feeding, grooming, incontinence care, mobility, changing linens, and taking medications. They cue and coach residents as directed to allow the residents to maintain as much independence as possible. They are responsible for doing laundry and housekeeping as directed to maintain a safe and clean environment for the residents. They will participate in planning, preparing, serving, and cleaning up after daily nutritious meals/snacks as directed. They are responsible for engaging residents in daily activities including prescribed exercises as directed. They may provide transportation for the residents to appointments or activities as directed.
Personal Care Assistants also assist with taking residents' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respirations as directed. Additionally, they assist with preparing and administering medications, collecting specimens for lab tests, monitoring residents, recording treatment, and properly documenting per facility protocol under the supervision of the Delegating Nurse. They communicate with residents often so that they can relay necessary information to the residents’ doctors, delegating nurse, assisted living manager and house supervisor. This requires them to be very empathetic and be able to connect and interact well with their residents.
Personal Care Assistants must conduct themselves in a professional and caring manner at all times. They must ensure the residents’ service plan is followed and the residents’ care needs are met following a resident-directed approach. Their work can often be physical, and it can require long hours on their feet and being able to ascend and descend stairs, which means that a Personal Care Assistant should be in adequate shape. Personal Care
Assistants should be able to lift, pull or push up to 50 lbs to assist residents as needed. They are often working alongside nurses and other aids, so they must be able to work well as a team member, follow directions well, and be able to offer help wherever it is most needed. They must be able to communicate information well between the resident, the health care providers, and with the resident’s families both in verbal and written forms.
Personal Care Assistants must stay up to date on TB, CPR, First Aid, CMT license renewal, Flu Shot and annual training as required by Broad Creek Manor Assisted Living Facility. Additionally they must have at minimum a high school diploma or equivalency, working cell phone, and reliable transportation.
