We are a family owned calf ranch located in West Fresno County. We offer a variety of custom heifer raising, offering from birth to springing age as well as our very own breeding program. Custom beef raising for slaughter operations are available. Day old beef calves are bought for our own raising and selling. Job Overview:
You will be responsible for the following duties personally or through subordinates while assisting in activities of workers engaged in care and movement of cattle at the ranch, reporting directly to the manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in the management of 5-6 subordinate supervisors who supervise 50-80 non-supervisory employees including Receivers, Doctors, Pen-riders, Feeders, Breeders and Processors. Shares responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Assist in managing the delivery of commodities and/or supplies as well as inventory.
- Set a positive example for employees by following safety rules and policies. Monitor workplace for unsafe/non-compliant behavior. Be involved in weekly supervisor meetings.
- Assigns workers to receive, weigh, inspect, medically treat, and transfer livestock.
- Examines livestock to determine the effectiveness of disease control and diet, collaborating with the veterinarian and/or nutritionist to take corrective action and rectify deficiencies.
- Ensure appropriate and effective dosages of medications are being administered per protocols and correct animal welfare.
- Observes livestock handling and issues instructions to minimize stress on livestock during transfer.
- Ensure farming operations are being completed adequately.
- Comply with applicable OSHA, FDA, and EPA regulations; make sure appropriate compliance records are being kept by supervisors.
Requirements:
- Obtained a bachelor's or associates degree in an animal science field and two years of related experience and/or training is preferred.
- Other knowledge or related agriculture experience that demonstrates the knowledge of cattle production and desire to work in the cattle feeding industry is preferred.
- Animal husbandry skills; knowledge of cattle breeds, characteristics and know what to look for when looking at the health of the cattle.
- Computer knowledge of Word Processing, Excel, and Google Sheets.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Strong ability to multitask.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure protocols.
- Ability to solve practical problems in a professional and timely manner.

Expected to authorize employee work, manage difficult or emotional employee situations, participate in meetings, understand business implications of decisions, work within the approved budget, conserve organizational resources, adapt to changes in the work environment, exhibit sound and accurate judgment, observe safety and security procedures, ensure the best of animal welfare and report potentially unsafe conditions or other unauthorized activity.
Work Environment:
The employee is frequently exposed to work in outdoor weather conditions. Exposure to cattle, commodities, equipment, and machinery. Some manual labor is necessary when assisting with movement of cattle.
