JOB SUMMARY
As a member of the LifeBridge Academy Education team, the special education teacher provides daily instruction to the students, participates in the development of IEPs, and utilizes data to adjust and develop teaching strategies. All teachers operate under the guidelines of the school program and regulatory agencies.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Licensed Special Education Teacher with 3 or more years’ experience teaching at the middle and/or high school level. Master’s Degree preferred.
LICENSES and CERTIFICATIONS
Must have a valid Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional license with endorsement in one or more special education categories. Will consider endorsement in one or more subject area(s) ALONG WITH at least three years of successful experience teaching secondary students with emotional and/or behavioral challenges.
CPR and First Aid Certification (LifeBridge will assist with obtaining or updating these certifications, if necessary).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide and sustain an atmosphere of love, care, acceptance, and respect for all students.
2. Design and prepare daily lesson plans that contain measurable, attainable student objectives that align with the VDOE Standards of Learning.
3. Teach lessons that address multiple learning modalities and utilize a variety of teaching materials, techniques, and diverse activities.
4. Demonstrate the ability to make content relevant and engage reluctant learners.
5. Organize classroom and materials for successful, engaging lesson presentation.
6. Be adept at continually monitoring student understanding and engagement through formal and informal evaluation methods and demonstrate the ability to adjust teaching strategies to increase student mastery of content.
7. Collect data and maintain student records, completing required administrative duties accurately and in a timely manner.
8. Work in tandem with Local Education Agencies to develop, amend, and update student
IEPs.
9. Employ individual accommodations from IEPs, allowing students every opportunity to meet with success.
10. Utilize technology to enhance and add value to daily lessons.
11. Develop positive relationships and mutual respect with students and their parents/guardians.
12. Manage student behavior in a positive, respectful manner that is developmentally appropriate and follows the school’s Positive Behavior Incentives and Supports (PBIS) program.
13. Assure that classroom expectations and consequences are made clear to the students and consistently enforced.
14. Exercise firm, fair, and consistent use of the school behavioral point system.
15. Foster a positive, productive partnership with LEA representatives and parent/guardians by communicating regularly and including them in team decisions.
16. Attend and participate in all staff meetings, trainings, and professional development.
17. Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with all LifeBridge staff.
18. Make a positive, professional impression with all visitors, parents, and agency representatives.
19. Maintain professional credentials and competencies for licensure.
20. Comply with all staff policies.
21. Other duties, as assigned.
This is a full-time, year-round, salaried position with paid time off and health care benefits.
