A successful Finance & HR Director thrives in a small business, fast-paced environment, and effectively leads and influences other team members. Reporting directly to the Vice President, they are a critical piece of the Leadership Team — maintaining a bird’s-eye view of the company’s finances and making data-informed decisions. The Finance & HR Director is accountable for all finance, HR and office management responsibilities impacting the overall health of the company.
Job Responsibilities
- Accountable for all financial and HR activities, including budgeting, invoicing, benefits oversight, compensation, payroll management, and regulatory compliance.
- Utilize strategic thinking and data analysis methods to make informed decisions that support the business’s financial goals, including profitability and rate analysis.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and effectively prepare, manage and produce financial forecasts and budgets.
- Monitor cash flow, liquidity and financial performance indicators.
- Develop and lead the Finance & Human Resource department, including vendor oversight and team supervision (currently one part-time Finance Specialist).
- Develop and maintain accurate financial reporting and accounting systems to ensure accountability for financial operations, including audits and tax preparations.
- Develop and lead company-wide employee recruitment strategies, including providing strategic HR guidance and input on organizational design, ensuring talent aligns with defined organizational structure, writing and updating job posts, and overseeing new employee onboarding.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and regulations.
- Implement an employee performance review process to ensure team development and retention.
- Address employee relations issues, conduct investigations and provide guidance on disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Foster a positive work culture and promote team member engagement and satisfaction.
- Devise and enforce changes to finance and HR policies by regularly monitoring and implementing industry trends.
- Create, manage, and educate team members on all processes and documentation related to finance, HR and the general office.
- As part of the Leadership Team, actively participate in long- and short-term planning sessions to establish strategy and objectives for years and quarters ahead.
- Collaborate with the Leadership Team and cross-functional teams to ensure processes/systems are cohesive and opportunities are addressed, and actions are taken to improve.
- Oversee office supply management, equipment management and maintenance, and vendor relationships.
- System owner of various software, including time tracking (EverHour) and communication tools (Slack, Missive and Google)
- Other miscellaneous office duties to support the business.
Qualifications
- Desire to contribute to the strategic direction and evolution of our organizational structure and processes
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents
- Strong knowledge of financial management principles, budgeting and financial analysis
- Familiarity with employment-related laws and payroll regulations in multiple states
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- A natural leader with the ability to manage, delegate and hold yourself and others accountable
- Strong organization skills with the ability to anticipate and follow through on tasks
- Positive, motivating, and effective interpersonal communication skills, including negotiation and conflict-resolution
- Small business entrepreneurial mindset
- Confident in making data-driven decisions
Candidates must be located within the St. Louis area and will be required to work from both the St. Louis and St. Charles offices regularly based on in-person meetings and team needs.
Preferred Experience
- 7+ years of experience in Administration, Finance or Human Resources
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field
- Proficiency in payroll administration and in computer-based accounting systems, such as QuickBooks
- Proficiency in usage of Google Suite, including Sheets (Excel) and Drive
- Demonstrated ability to prepare budgets and financial forecasts
- Relevant certifications such as CPA or SPHR/PHR are preferred
- Previous Merger and Acquisition experience a plus
