Overview:
Touro College of Pharmacy seeks a Research Associate. This position is for an individual who has a background in pharmacy, chemistry, biology, or pharmaceutical sciences and is interested in providing comprehensive support for pharmacy laboratory courses and faculty-sponsored research projects.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Pursue individual research project as directed by the PI.

Maintain cell culture and conduct cell-based assays.

Carry out experiments related to recombinant protein expression and purification and molecular biology techniques such as western blots, promoter-reporter assays, protein-protein interactions, site-directed mutagenesis.

Learn advanced experimental design and be responsible for intellectual commitment to position and relevant literature.

Maintain a detailed notebook of protocols and research activities.

Participate in lab meetings and work closely with all members of the lab.

Assist in the TCOP’s pharmaceutics teaching laboratories with a focus on non-sterile and sterile compounding.

Should be able to work independently and proficient in maintaining and procuring inventories of chemicals, reagents and consumables for research and teaching purposes; routine maintenance of all laboratory instruments; and ensuring appropriate disposal of materials to be discarded.

Keep an inventory of chemicals, reagents, and consumables; maintain all laboratory instruments, and MSDS sheets.

Prepare the lab materials used by the students in the compounding lab; keep an inventory; A thorough knowledge of appropriate disposal methods is a must.

Prepare the compounding lab for each session; ensure that the laboratory is organized and clean, and that each student has all the materials and glassware required for each laboratory session.

Assist instructors during laboratory sessions and upkeep in the Model Pharmacy.

Ensure that laboratories are neat at the end of the laboratory session; glassware and instruments are clean and ready for the next session.

Make copies of manuals and distribute them to the students.

Organize and maintain the research lab; assist professors and students engaged in research projects.

Ensure that equipment is properly cleaned and maintained, and that chemicals, drugs and other materials are appropriately stored.

Ensure that all health, safety and regulatory procedures and policies are understood and followed correctly.

Perform other activities as requested by the Chair or the Dean.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in pharmacy, biochemistry/biology or a related field required.

At least one year of previous molecular and cell biology lab experience is highly preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Computer proficiency (in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoints etc.) is expected.

A high degree of interpersonal competency: professionalism, diplomacy, judgement and discretion required.

Demonstrated ability to develop positive and cooperative relationships with students, faculty, and colleagues required.

Familiarity with molecular biological techniques and with cell culture is helpful.
- Experience as a pharmacy technician and/or preparing sterile/intravenous products is a plus.

Familiarity in running day-to-day activities in a biochemistry/cell biology lab is highly desirable.
Maximum Salary: USD $53,569.00/Yr. Minimum Salary: USD $42,855.00/Yr.
