The Patent Agent / Intellectual Property Supervisor is responsible for supervising IP team, dockets, records and budget. This includes the development, filing and prosecution of US and foreign patent applications, maintenance of the company’s patent portfolio and clearance of new and revised product designs. Executive Management’s emphasis on development of patent portfolio ensures great visibility and opportunity within the organization.
- Role reports to President / CEO.
- Supervise administrative aspects of the IP department including personnel, dockets, records, risk assessments and budget
- Monitor departments and design reviews to identify patentable subject matter
- Draft US and foreign patent applications based on reviewed subject matter
- Develop patent illustrations with in-house designer for US & foreign patent applications
- Coordinate office action responses and clearance opinions with outside counsel
- Assist outside counsel and in-house Legal with potential or existing IP litigation
- Evaluate the patent portfolio with supervisor for payment of maintenance fees
- Maintain the IP department’s virtual patent label program
- Assist the Legal Team with IP licensing and other technology agreements
- Update competitive patent intelligence for Executive Management
- Evaluate competitive products for patent infringement
- Coordinate with marketing to manage the trademark portfolio
- Must have current USPTO registration as a patent agent
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in technical discipline
- 5 years’ experience as a patent agent for a manufacturing concern
- Minimum 2 years supervisory experience (preference in leading an IP team)
