The Melanin Village is on a mission to increase the educational opportunities and outcomes for Black and Brown children throughout the United States by empowering and equipping their families to provide a world-class education at home.
In our model we provide coaching, community, and curriculum support to parent educators while offering high-quality academic programming and a culturally affirming community to their children.
We have a variety of programs to help us achieve this aim including an online membership, homeschool co-ops, and a hybrid private school.
In Central Jersey, our families meet weekly for in-person classes and programming. Additionally, there is one field trip per semester. Please review our detailed organization overview here prior to completing your application to better understand this program and how it fits into our model.
About this Position
In our commitment to ensuring that our students have access to flexible, personalized, and culturally-affirming learning, we are seeking a Campus Program Lead for our Melanin Village campus location in Princeton to manage all program activities and operations and provide oversight of the instructional quality and experience of the program.
This dynamic, part-time position combines program coordination, administration, and community building to ensure our learners can truly access a high-quality education at home.
As a Program Leader, you will:
- Be the point-person of your Campus and relied on by parents, teachers, and students alike.
- Collaborate with program instructional staff, parents and learners providing support and resources as needed
- Ensure the smooth delivery and implementation of the daily academic and activity schedule.
- Research, plan, and coordinate appropriate K-8 field trip experiences
- Supervise field trip events and coordinate groups at the field trip location according to pre-arranged event schedule
- Complete opening tasks prior to the start of the program such as ensuring educational materials and spaces are ready to receive learners
- Conduct closing duties after the end of the program such as ensuring materials are secured and learning spaces are returned to their original state
As a Community Builder, you will:
- Help parents and learners foster positive connections among one another.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that celebrates diversity and promotes academic excellence.
- Capture media of memorable moments for us to utilize for social media content, email marketing, sales pages, and Yearbook
- Learn and uphold internal policies and procedures related to parent and student support.
- Build local relationships to strengthen our community partnerships.
- Maintain a positive relationship and consistent communication with our partner facility
As an administrator, you will:
- Serve as liaison between the on-site facilities manager and The Melanin Village administration team
- Perform daily check-in and attendance duties, keeping and reporting accurate documentation
- Implement emergency response protocols
- Ensure safety standards are met and complete required paperwork within deadlines
- Communicate with families, instructional staff, facility manager and The Melanin Village national team about activities and on-site operations.

A Month in the Life...This is a dynamic position with your responsibilities ebbing and flowing throughout the month.
Here's an idea what you will do in a month in the life as Campus Lead:
Week 1 (On Campus - 5 hours):
- Ensure the learning spaces and teachers are prepared for the day.
- Check students and families into the program (take attendance)
- Oversee student and parents issues.
- Check in with national team with updates
Week 2 (On Campus and Remote - 7 hours):
- Week 1 Activities
- Ensure all permission slips have been completed for upcoming field trip.
- Talk with Academic Lead (from national team) about a parent issue and make a plan for support.
- Check in with national team with updates
- Check in with facility manager to ensure partnership operations are running smoothly
Week 3 (On Campus - 5 hours):
- Fill in for missing teacher following her lesson plans.
- Ensure the learning spaces and teachers are prepared for the day.
- Check students and families into the program (take attendance).
- Oversee student and parents issues.
- Check in with national team with updates
Week 4 (Field Trip - 5 hours):
- Chaperone field trip (parents are there with their children)
- Take photos and videos of the trip.
- Check in with national team with updates.
Finally, you also should know
- We are looking for an execution-focused leader who is passionate about our mission and knows how to get the job (no matter what it is) done.
- As the Campus Leader you will have a direct-facing role with our teacher, community partners, parents, and learners and will be an integral part of the impact we make in our learners' lives.
- You will be a part of a passionate team with great support, however the rest of the leadership team is remote.

Schedule & Compensation & Benefits.
- This is a permanent, part-time, hybrid position of about 20-25 hours per month.
- On Campus Schedule: You are required to travel to our Princeton, New Jersey location every Friday ~ 15-18 hours per month for our on campus classes and activities; 5 hours of this time will be allocated to field trips once per semester.
- Remote Schedule: Off-campus responsibilities, such as planning for trips and other administrative responsibilities, can be completed remotely. Remote duties will total about ~5-7 hours per month.
- Required Schedule: You must be available 9:00 am - 1:30pm on the following dates without exception:

Additionally, you must be available during scheduled Field Trip Dates (once per semester). These dates are flexible and still being solidified.
- Pay: Starting at $20 per hour based on experience and skills

- Written Application (5 questions): Your written application MUST be completed via our online application below.
- Video Assessment & Reference Checks: You will receive prompts to which you will need to respond via video. Additionally, you will share three professional references. Reference checks occur at this step because we want to ensure the people we are working with are fully-aligned with our mission. Those who successfully pass the video assessment and reference checks will be invited to the next round.
- Work Sample & Project Plan: You will be paid for this portion of the application process. You will demonstrate your project planning and leadership skills in sample project. This will take 3-5 hours to complete.
- Panel Interview: Final candidates will be invited to a panel interview. Before your interview, we will also ask you to complete work-style assessments.
