NAKASEC is seeking a full-time, exempt Senior Finance Associate position to work closely with the Finance & Compliance Director to ensure NAKASEC, NAKASEC Action Fund, and Asian Americans for Change Fund’s finances are regularly managed and adhere to generally accepted accounting principles. The position is based in Chicago, IL. The role may require infrequent travel. The salary for this position ranges from $60,000 to $65,000, with exact salary depending on experience. Also, paid time off, vacation, sick days are offered. We close between December 25 – January 1 for reflection and rejuvenation.

In addition to day-to-day financial activities, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial health and long-term success of the organization. You will spearhead efforts to optimize financial processes and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. We are seeking a finance professional with a proven track record of exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and a dedication to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and development within the finance team.
Who we are
NAKASEC was founded by local Korean community-based organizations from across the United States. These organizations felt the need for a strong, progressive voice that could impact federal policy and build a national movement. NAKASEC remains strongly connected with and informed by the local groups that originally formed us. Our affiliates serve as our channel to learn more about the issues impacting our community members at the grassroots level. This local-to-national channel directly informs NAKASEC’s national campaigns, policy agenda, and other projects.
NAKASEC’s affiliates are HANA Center (Illinois), Woori Center (Pennsylvania), MinKwon Center for Community Action (New York), Hamkae Center (Virginia), and Woori Juntos (Texas).
What you will Do
The Finance Senior Associate, who is based in Chicago, Illinois and reports to the Compliance and Finance Director is responsible for the following:
- Track and reconcile online donations for each legal entity and fiscally sponsored project.
- Enter data for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions and ensure accuracy for each legal entity and fiscally sponsored project.
- Review invoices on Bill.com for correct coding and approval process.
- Maintain grants management tracker, such as date of award, payment schedules, report due dates, etc. for each legal entity and fiscally sponsored project.
- Process bi-weekly payroll.
- Assist with onboarding new contractors and manage vendor profiles on Bill.com.Collect and track annual W-9s, assist with Form 1099 prep, etc.
- Manage users on Expensify and review credit card reports and reimbursement requests for correct coding.
- Assist with the documentation process for preparing the cost-sharing invoices between all legal entities.
- Make bank deposits for checks and cash received.
- Prepare monthly bank statement and credit card statement reconciliations.
- Create Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) for regrants to other organizations and maintain regrants tracker.
- Attend staff meetings, manager meetings, and other meetings as needed
- Assist NAKASEC Co-Directors with administrative projects as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Who you are & Keys to Success (the Must-haves)
- Proficiency in English
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; Advanced Degree preferred such as a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Finance (MFin), or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
- Proficiency in financial management software such as QuickBooks, etc. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting is essential
- Ability to come to the Albany Park, Chicago office 2-3 times a week
- Data entry skills, particularly attention to detail
- Ability to problem-solve independently
- Ability to work efficiently and to complete tasks in a timely manner

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
