Position Description: The Development & Marketing Manager’s primary responsibility is to lead and support Chicago Tech Academy’s revenue-generating efforts and fundraising initiatives. The Development Manager is focused on growing a portfolio of donors (comprised of foundation, board, corporation, and individual supporters), as well as stewarding existing partnerships from our donor community and ensuring that Chicago Tech Academy’s donor and volunteer prospects and supporters have a meaningful and rewarding experience through strategic cultivation activities and ongoing stewardship. The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position.
Responsibilities
Acknowledgment
- Ensure that ChiTech donors and volunteers are acknowledged in a meaningful way, and in a timely fashion
Prospecting & Fundraising
- Manage and grow a portfolio of annual fund donors (Foundation, Corporate, Individual) through research and community engagement
- Identify, qualify, and cultivate connections with prospective supporters whose grant-making priorities are aligned with our areas of focus.
- Maintain up-to-date information on prospects and donors
- Identify fundraising opportunities for the organization, including in-kind donations, online campaigns, and special events.
- Create mission-based, donor-centric appeals and recognition strategies distributed through a variety of channels including personal contacts, direct mail, social media, and other correspondence.
- Engage in all aspects of the proposal-writing process, including conducting research and analysis and developing letters of intent, proposal applications, and reports.
Stewardship
- Responsible for timely and meaningful stewardship moves in order to thank and further engage key ChiTech constituents and supporters
- Develop and implement a Chi Tech “moves management” system
- Work together with members of the fundraising and development team to meet or exceed annual revenue goals.
- Participate in the creation, planning, and implementation of new and existing projects.
Calendar
- Maintain annual fundraising calendar, including individual cultivation and stewardship opportunities
- Ensure materials are ready and distributed at an appropriate time for donor and volunteer meetings. Draft briefings and background materials for events and donor meetings.
- Coordinate donor-related meetings and events and ensure that participants are well-prepared. Anticipate needs and address them proactively.
Events
- Responsible for supporting the planning and execution of key events, ensuring that key donors, prospects, volunteer leaders, and influencers are in attendance and that communication goes out in a timely manner
Reporting
- Timely and effective reporting on program outcomes/grants
- Maintain electronic records and compile standard and specialized reports and spreadsheets using organizational database tools
- Research, write and/or edit correspondence, reports, and other written materials.
- Gather and analyze information from various sources.
- Ensure that all donations, including those submitted by others on behalf of our constituents (e.g. matching gifts, donor-advised funds, etc.), are properly recorded in the fundraising database
- Ensure overall data integrity
- Run reports, synthesize information, and share frequent updates about current and prospective donors
Marketing & Communications
- Ensures marketing materials (including the school website) are of high quality, and that they communicate the mission of ChiTech in a compelling way while focusing on current opportunities for giving and prospect engagement
- Create/prepare documents including presentations, email campaigns, newsletters, and reports.
- Produce documents, proposals, and collateral materials for meetings and presentations.
- Write and post blogs, press releases, and other materials
- Produces engaging social media content and ensures that relevant school updates are shared via all ChiTech social media sites.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, non-profit management or related field preferred
- At least three years of development, fundraising, philanthropy, and/or marketing and communications experience preferred
- Superb organizational and time management skills with excellent attention to detail and independent follow through in a fast-paced environment
- Experience using Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge or similar software (preferred)
- Experience using Mailchimp or similar tool (preferred)
- Familiarity with all social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Experience with the following: website updates, design using Photoshop, and photography and video recording and editing (preferred)

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
