Substitute Teacher
Ages Two through Eighth Grade
The Substitute Teacher requires a candidate with an open-minded, flexible, and proactive attitude. Among other duties, the Substitute Teacher will assist faculty with classes, organize materials, oversee indoor and outdoor breaks, oversee study halls, and share lunch duties. Ideal candidates will have experience working with children and interest in an independent school.
Work Hours: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, with the potential to work extended hours in our Extended Day Program as needed
Requirements:
· Minimum 2-year degree or higher in early childhood education or a related field; or demonstrated experience in early childhood education setting
· Physical ability to work on the floor, sit, bend, stoop, and lift as needed
· CPR and First Aid Certification, Bloodborne Pathogens Training (provided by MMS)
· Pass local and national background screening (provided by MMS)
· Treat each student with dignity and respect
· Adhere to school safety policies and procedures
· Ensure the safety of the children at all times
· Demonstrate a gentle body, kind voice, and gentle hands during the day
· Encourage self-direction and self-reliance in the students
· Be comfortable removing a child from a dangerous situation, including physically, if required
· Guide the children to choose work and return work when the task is completed
· Monitor the children during line time so that the lead teacher or specialty teachers (music, Spanish, media) can teach without interruption.
· Supervise the children on the playground
· Supervise lunchtime
· Clean lunch area (sweep, hose when necessary for messy spills, clean tables with a bleach/water solution)
· Move children to different areas of school grounds in an orderly fashion (morning care, aftercare, media, big room, etc.)
· Supervise the children during the car pick up
· As the lead teacher gives lessons, act as the tone keeper and remain vigilant while freely moving around the room
· Be a positive face of the school in interaction with all parents, even if they are not members of your classroom
· Create clear expectations for students during different times of the day, including playground, work cycle, and specialty teachers’ group times
· Dress professionally and behave in a professional manner

Pay: From $15.00 per hour
